BMW is making public charging more affordable for customers buying or leasing select 2027 electric vehicles in the United States. BMW of North America has announced a new charging benefits package worth $500, along with a complimentary one-year membership at IONNA, giving eligible EV owners additional savings and access to a growing public charging network.
Available now, the offer is designed to simplify public charging and reduce ownership costs for customers of eligible 2027 BMW electric vehicles.
The new BMW charging package combines two separate credits that can be used across participating public charging networks.
Eligible customers will receive:
– $300 BMW ChargingNetwork credit: Usable at participating public charging providers across the United States.
– $200 IONNA charging credit: Specifically designated for charging sessions at IONNA locations.
– One year of complimentary IONNA Membership: Includes a 25% discount on charging during the membership period.
The combined $500 in charging credits can help offset public charging expenses during the first year of ownership. Once the applicable credits have been exhausted, subsequent charging sessions will be billed to the customer’s payment method on file.
According to Alexander Schleicher, Head of E-Mobility at BMW of North America, making public charging more accessible is an important part of improving the overall electric vehicle ownership experience.
BMW also highlights the integration of its ChargingNetwork into the My BMW app, allowing drivers to locate charging stations, access compatible services and manage payments through a single platform.
The charging promotion is available to customers who purchase or lease eligible Model Year 2027 versions of three BMW electric vehicles: BMW i5, BMW i7 and BMW iX3.
Customers who purchased or leased an eligible 2027 model before the program’s November 5 launch date may also qualify for the benefits.
The charging credits and complimentary membership are valid for up to one year from the vehicle’s retail date.
To activate the offer, eligible owners must enroll through the My BMW app. The process involves navigating to Charging > Services > Charging Wallet > BMW ChargingNetwork, completing the required account setup and accepting the available charging package.
After enrollment, the credits and membership benefits will appear in the customer’s Digital Charging Wallet. Qualifying charging sessions will then automatically use the available credits.
Additional eligibility details and program terms are available through BMW USA.
Beyond the new financial incentives, BMW is continuing to expand its integrated public charging experience in the United States.
The BMW ChargingNetwork provides access to more than 180,000 compatible public charging stations through the My BMW app. The network brings together multiple charging providers, allowing BMW drivers to find and manage charging sessions without having to navigate several different platforms.
Participating providers include IONNA, Shell Recharge, Electrify America, ChargePoint and EVgo, among others.
BMW is also investing in technologies intended to make public charging more convenient. Its Plug & Charge integration is designed to simplify the charging process by reducing the need for manual authentication and payment steps at compatible stations.
Another initiative is ChargeScape, a collaborative project focused on managing energy flows between electric vehicles and the power grid. Such technology could play an increasingly important role as EV adoption grows and electricity demand changes.
The new charging incentives arrive as BMW prepares to expand its all-electric vehicle portfolio in the United States.
The automaker plans to introduce the BMW iX5 and BMW i3 to the U.S. market in the first quarter of 2027, adding more options to its growing electric vehicle lineup.
