Dacia has strengthened its position as the value leader in the UK electric vehicle market by reducing the price of the Dacia Spring to just £11,990 on-the-road, making it not only the country’s cheapest new electric vehicle but also the least expensive new car currently on sale.
The latest price cut comes shortly after Chinese rival Leapmotor lowered the price of its T03 city car to £12,995 through a manufacturer-funded incentive. Dacia’s move undercuts the T03 by £1,005 while also placing the Spring nearly £2,800 below the entry-level petrol-powered Dacia Sandero, which starts at £14,765.
Affordable Electric Driving Without Sacrificing Essentials
Despite its bargain price, the Spring continues to offer the equipment buyers expect from a modern city EV.
The entry-level Spring Expression is powered by a 52 kW (65 hp) electric motor and delivers a WLTP range of up to 140 miles (225 km). Standard equipment includes:
– Air conditioning
– Cruise control
– Rear parking sensors
– Digital instrument display
– Media Control smartphone connectivity with steering wheel controls
– Lane-keeping assist
– Driver attention monitoring
While the Expression skips a central touchscreen, smartphone integration remains available through Dacia’s Media Control system.
Spring Extreme Adds More Power and Technology
For buyers looking for extra performance and features, the Spring Extreme now starts at £12,990, just £1,000 more than the base model.
The upgraded version features a more powerful 75 kW (100 hp) electric motor and includes:
– 10.1-inch Media Nav Live touchscreen
– Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
– Reversing camera
– Alloy wheels
– Electric rear windows
– Vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability
– Distinctive copper-accented styling
Recent Updates Improve Efficiency and Driving Experience
The current Dacia Spring recently received a significant refresh, bringing several mechanical and technological improvements.
Updates include:
– A new 24.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery
– More powerful electric motors
– Retuned suspension
– Upgraded braking system
Dacia says the battery can recharge from 20% to 80% in as little as 29 minutes, making quick top-ups practical for everyday urban driving.
Practical City Car With Surprising Space
Although compact on the outside, the Spring offers impressive practicality for its size.
The luggage compartment provides 308 litres of cargo space, expanding to 1,004 litres with the rear seats folded. Dacia’s YouClip accessory system also adds extra versatility by allowing owners to securely mount useful accessories throughout the cabin.
Price Cuts Come Despite Missing Out on UK EV Grant
Neither the Dacia Spring nor the Leapmotor T03 currently qualifies for the UK’s Electric Car Grant because both models are manufactured in China.
Instead, the lower prices are being funded directly by the manufacturers. Leapmotor’s pricing relies on its manufacturer-backed Leap Grant, while Dacia has reduced the Spring’s list price outright, making it the most affordable new car available in the UK regardless of powertrain.
Next-Generation Spring Expected in 2027
Dacia is expected to reveal the next-generation Spring later this year, with the redesigned model scheduled to arrive in 2027.
Production is expected to move from China to Europe, a change that could make the future Spring eligible for UK EV incentives should similar government support remain in place.
Commenting on the new pricing, Lina Ribeiro, Dacia UK Brand Director, said the company continues to remove barriers to electric vehicle ownership by combining low purchase prices with low running costs, making the Spring one of the strongest value propositions currently available in the UK market.
