Bentley has officially revealed the name of its first all-electric model, confirming that its long-awaited electric SUV will be called the Torcal. The new model line marks a significant milestone for the British luxury carmaker as it enters the electric era, with the global debut scheduled for September 23.
The Torcal becomes Bentley’s fourth core model line, joining the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga. It also continues the brand’s recent tradition of naming vehicles after remarkable natural landmarks.
The name is inspired by El Torcal de Antequera, a spectacular natural reserve in Andalusia, Spain, renowned for its towering limestone rock formations, cliffs and labyrinth-like landscapes sculpted over millions of years. Bentley also notes that “Torcal” derives from the Latin word torquere, meaning “to twist,” which is also the linguistic root of the modern word “torque”—a fitting reference for an electric vehicle expected to deliver effortless performance.
Alongside the announcement, Bentley released the first teaser image of the Torcal. While it reveals only the rear of the vehicle, the silhouette confirms its SUV proportions. Slim taillights featuring a distinctive diamond-inspired lighting signature and a darkened Bentley badge hint at a modern interpretation of the brand’s design language.
Although Bentley has yet to publish detailed technical specifications, previous prototypes and company previews provide a clearer picture of what to expect. The Torcal will sit below the Bentayga in size while offering improved interior packaging thanks to its dedicated electric platform. Despite its more compact exterior dimensions, the SUV is expected to provide increased passenger space and luggage capacity.
The Torcal is widely expected to share its underlying technology with the upcoming Porsche Cayenne Electric. That would likely bring a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain, an 800-volt electrical architecture and ultra-fast DC charging capabilities of up to 400 kW, allowing significantly reduced charging times.
Bentley has also indicated that the Torcal has been engineered for everyday usability, with an estimated driving range exceeding 300 miles (approximately 480 km), positioning it as a practical luxury SUV for daily driving as well as long-distance travel.
Bentley Chairman and CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser described the new model as a landmark for the company, saying the Torcal sets new benchmarks across the areas that matter most while remaining unmistakably Bentley in its craftsmanship, comfort and effortless performance.
As Bentley prepares to unveil its first production EV on September 23, the Torcal represents the beginning of a new chapter for the brand—combining luxury, performance and advanced electric technology in a model designed to define Bentley’s future.
