BYD Seal 08 Launches with 905 km Range, Flash Charging and Standard LiDAR Technology

BYD has officially launched the new Seal 08, a flagship sedan for its Ocean Series that aims to strengthen the automaker’s position in the premium new energy vehicle (NEV) segment. Offered in both all-electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions, the Seal 08 stands out by making BYD’s latest flash charging technology standard across the entire lineup.

The new sedan is available in six variants, with prices starting at 196,900 yuan (approximately $29,000). Three battery-electric models and three plug-in hybrid models give buyers a broad range of performance and driving range options.

BYD Seal 08 Lineup

The plug-in hybrid lineup includes:

– Seal 08 DM-i 400 km Premium
– Seal 08 DM-i 400 km Flagship
– Seal 08 DM-p AWD Flagship

The all-electric range consists of:

– Seal 08 EV 775 km Premium
– Seal 08 EV 905 km Flagship
– Seal 08 EV AWD Flagship

To encourage early buyers, BYD is offering 12 months of free flash charging, along with one year of complimentary coverage for incidents involving its intelligent city navigation-assisted driving and automated parking functions.

Premium Design and Advanced Chassis

Positioned as a mid-to-large luxury sedan, the Seal 08 measures 5,150 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,505 mm tall, with a generous 3,030 mm wheelbase. The fastback silhouette adopts BYD’s latest Ocean Aesthetics 2.0 design language while maximizing cabin space for rear passengers.

A major highlight is the standard rear-wheel steering system, allowing the Seal 08 to achieve a remarkably tight 4.95-meter turning radius, making the large sedan significantly easier to maneuver in urban environments.

Higher-spec versions also feature BYD’s DiSus-A closed dual-chamber air suspension, which works with road preview technology to continuously adjust damping before the vehicle reaches changing road surfaces, improving both ride comfort and handling.

800V EV Platform with Five-Minute Flash Charging

Every Seal 08 EV rides on BYD’s new 800-volt high-voltage architecture and uses the company’s second-generation Blade Battery.

The flagship rear-wheel-drive model delivers an impressive 905 km CLTC driving range, while BYD says the vehicle can gain approximately 400 km of driving range in just five minutes using compatible flash charging infrastructure.

Performance is equally impressive. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive version produces 510 kW (634 hp) and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds, placing it among the quickest electric sedans in its class.

Plug-in Hybrid Delivers 1,660 km Combined Range

For buyers seeking long-distance flexibility, the Seal 08 plug-in hybrid combines a dedicated 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with electric motors.

The system provides up to 400 km of electric-only CLTC range, supported by a 45.36 kWh battery pack, while total combined driving range reaches an impressive 1,660 km. The all-wheel-drive PHEV version produces 400 kW and completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.8 seconds.

Technology-Focused Interior

The cabin emphasizes comfort and digital technology with premium features offered throughout the lineup.

Drivers benefit from a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 26-inch augmented reality head-up display. Front occupants receive dual zero-gravity seats, while every seating position offers heating, ventilation and massage functions.

Every Seal 08 also comes standard with the LiDAR-equipped version of BYD’s God’s Eye B intelligent driving system. The suite supports city and highway navigation assistance, automatic emergency braking, and intelligent parking functions.

Supporting BYD’s Global Momentum

The Seal 08 arrives as BYD continues expanding both domestically and internationally. Following supply constraints related to the rollout of its second-generation Blade Battery, the automaker has returned to stronger sales momentum.

In June, BYD sold 403,472 new energy vehicles, marking its second consecutive month of year-over-year growth. Overseas deliveries reached a record 175,349 vehicles, representing a 94.7% increase compared with the same month last year.

With its combination of long driving range, ultra-fast charging, advanced chassis technologies and comprehensive driver assistance features, the Seal 08 is positioned as one of BYD’s most technologically advanced flagship sedans to date while reinforcing the company’s ambitions in the premium EV market.
