Renault has unveiled an updated Megane E-Tech electric, introducing a sharper exterior design, a larger LFP battery, faster DC charging and expanded connected technology for the compact electric hatchback.
First launched in 2022, the Megane E-Tech electric was one of the first models to signal Renault’s new EV direction. The latest update focuses on four areas: revised styling, improved efficiency and charging performance, more advanced onboard technology, and a simplified two-trim range.
Renault says more than two-thirds of Megane E-Tech electric customers are new to EV ownership. With that in mind, the upgraded model adds features aimed at making charging, route planning and daily driving easier.
The new Megane E-Tech electric is built at Ampere ElectriCity in Douai, France, where both the vehicle and battery are assembled. Its electric motor is produced at Renault Group’s Cléon plant in Normandy.
Revised Front-End Design and Two-Trim Line-Up
The updated Megane E-Tech electric receives a more assertive front-end design, with nearly every component redesigned apart from the headlights. A new body-coloured bumper gives the EV a more dynamic appearance, while the former side air intakes have been replaced by a distinctive lighting signature made up of eight diamond-shaped elements.
Renault has also updated the closed grille, which now features a gloss black finish and diamond pattern. The Renault badge has been repositioned below the bonnet, helping to emphasise the car’s low, forward-leaning stance.
At the rear, the Megane retains its full-width lighting layout, now with 3D-effect lamp elements. The EV is also 20mm taller than before to accommodate the larger battery pack.
The range has been streamlined to two versions: techno and esprit Alpine.
The techno trim features a body-coloured front bumper treatment, new 19-inch alloy wheels and a TEP-finished dashboard. The esprit Alpine adds unique 20-inch wheels, more distinctive exterior detailing, revised interior finishes and spectral grey door-panel trim.
Six exterior colours will be available, including a new Satin Blue option, with selected two-tone finishes also offered.
New 67kWh LFP Battery Delivers Up to 310 Miles
The biggest mechanical upgrade is a new 67kWh usable lithium iron phosphate battery. Renault says the new pack enables a WLTP driving range of up to 310 miles.
The battery uses lithium iron phosphate chemistry and a cell-to-pack design with 232 closely packed cells. This approach improves packaging efficiency while increasing usable capacity.
Power comes from a 220hp wound-rotor synchronous electric motor producing 300Nm of torque. Renault notes that the motor does not use rare earth materials and continues to be manufactured in France.
DC rapid charging has increased to 165kW, allowing the battery to charge from 15% to 80% in approximately 24 minutes. An 11kW AC onboard charger is standard.
The Megane E-Tech electric also features a heat pump and battery pre-conditioning system to support charging performance in varying temperatures. Google Maps EV route planning can factor charging stops into journeys to help optimise travel times.
Vehicle-to-load capability is available, allowing owners to power 220V devices up to 3,700W through an adaptor. Vehicle-to-grid functionality will also be offered in selected markets, enabling the car to send energy back to the grid where compatible charging infrastructure is available.
Retuned Chassis and One Pedal Driving
The Megane E-Tech electric continues to use Renault’s RG medium 1.0 platform, previously known as AmpR Medium. Its battery remains mounted beneath the floor, helping provide a low centre of gravity and balanced weight distribution.
Renault has revised the springs, dampers and steering calibration to suit the new battery. The EV retains its multi-link rear suspension, while steering response has been tuned for a more direct feel.
A new One Pedal driving function allows drivers to accelerate and slow to a complete stop using only the accelerator pedal. Four levels of regenerative braking are available through steering wheel paddles.
Google Gemini and Expanded Connected Features
Inside, every version of the new Megane E-Tech electric comes with Renault’s openR link infotainment system. The setup combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 12-inch central touchscreen in an inverted L-shaped layout.
The system includes Google built-in, giving drivers access to Google Maps, Google Assistant and a growing selection of apps through Google Play. Renault says the Megane’s software platform has received around 60 upgrades since the model launched in 2022.
Google Gemini is now being introduced to support more natural voice interaction. The system is designed to understand conversational requests, retain context and respond to more complex questions while driving.
More than 100 apps are available through Google Play, while three years of internet connectivity is included for downloaded in-car apps without requiring a separate subscription or smartphone hotspot.
The updated model also introduces driver recognition through a camera mounted in the windscreen pillar. Once a profile is created, the vehicle can automatically load personalised settings, including driving position, media preferences and openR link settings. Renault says this information remains stored in the vehicle and is not sent to external servers.
Other additions include Smart Mode, which automatically adapts driving settings based on driver behaviour, and an available Qi2-compatible wireless charging pad that also supports MagSafe-equipped iPhones.
More Driver Assistance and Standard Equipment
More than 30 safety and driver assistance systems are available on the new Megane E-Tech electric. New or enhanced features include intelligent adaptive cruise control, emergency stop assist, predictive eco-driving advice and an upgraded in-dash visual display.
Renault has also added Safety Score, Safety Coach and Safety Monitor functions, which analyse driving behaviour and offer personalised feedback.
The new my rnlt mobile app extends the connected experience beyond the vehicle. It allows users to plan EV routes, send destinations to Google Maps in the car, check charging status and range, manage charging remotely, pre-condition the cabin and locate nearby charging stations. Renault says the app will be introduced gradually across Europe before expanding to other Renault models.
The techno version comes standard with the 12-inch openR link display, Google built-in, EV route planning, heat pump, battery pre-conditioning, 220hp motor and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Stepping up to esprit Alpine adds sportier styling, 20-inch alloy wheels, power massage seats, a Harman Kardon audio system and a broader suite of driver assistance features.
With a longer WLTP range, faster charging, a new LFP battery and more advanced Google-powered technology, the updated Renault Megane E-Tech electric is designed to remain competitive in Europe’s increasingly crowded compact EV market.
