Polestar is expanding its charging strategy in South Korea, announcing plans to introduce the North American Charging System (NACS) on selected models beginning in 2029. The move is designed to provide customers with even greater charging flexibility in one of the world’s most developed electric vehicle markets.
South Korea already offers one of the strongest public charging infrastructures globally, with more than 490,000 public charging points available nationwide. According to Polestar, the country has approximately one public charger for every 1.8 electric vehicles, making it the most advanced charging environment among OECD nations.
To simplify everyday driving, Polestar customers can already use the TMAP in-car navigation system to locate available public chargers across the country. Real-time charging information helps drivers plan routes more efficiently while reducing range anxiety during longer journeys.
The addition of NACS compatibility will further expand charging options for future Polestar owners. By supporting the growing NACS ecosystem in South Korea, the company aims to make charging more accessible whether drivers are commuting daily or traveling longer distances.
“Through access to the NACS charging environment in South Korea, combined with the planned installation of 400 Polestar destination-based chargers by 2030, we look forward to significantly elevating the charging convenience for Polestar customers in South Korea,” said Jason Ham, Managing Director of Polestar South Korea.
The company also plans to strengthen its own charging infrastructure by installing 400 destination chargers across South Korea by 2030, complementing the country’s extensive public charging network.
Olivier Loedel, Head of Software Product Management at Polestar, emphasized that easy access to charging remains one of the key factors in accelerating EV adoption.
“Enabling customers to charge their Polestar conveniently, whether at home or on the road, and providing access to the widest network coverage possible, removes one of the most common barriers to transitioning to EV ownership,” Loedel said.
Building on a Global Charging Strategy
The South Korean rollout is part of Polestar’s broader effort to improve charging interoperability across its global markets.
In North America, Polestar customers have been able to access the Tesla Supercharger network with a NACS adapter since 2024, significantly expanding fast-charging availability. In Europe, Tesla Superchargers were added to the Polestar Charge ecosystem in 2024, providing access to more than 20,000 charging stations.
Since the end of 2025, European drivers have also been able to locate and navigate to Tesla Superchargers directly through the Polestar Charge app and the vehicle’s integrated Google Maps navigation system.
By extending NACS support to South Korea while continuing to invest in destination charging, Polestar is reinforcing its strategy of delivering a seamless charging experience across key global markets. The latest initiative underscores the automaker’s focus on reducing charging complexity and making EV ownership more convenient for customers wherever they drive.
