MG Invests €200 Million in New European EV Manufacturing Hub in Spain

MG has announced plans to restart vehicle manufacturing in Europe through a new production facility in Galicia, Spain. The investment, valued at approximately €200 million, represents a major step in the brand’s long-term European expansion strategy and reinforces its commitment to localized production under its “In Europe, For Europe” initiative.

The new facility is expected to become a cornerstone of MG’s European operations, creating more than 2,000 jobs across the region and supporting the company’s ambitions in the rapidly evolving electric mobility market.

Production Set to Begin in 2028

Construction and development of the Galicia facility will pave the way for vehicle production beginning in 2028. Once fully operational, the plant will have the capacity to manufacture up to 120,000 vehicles annually, significantly increasing MG’s European production footprint.

The site will combine several critical functions within a single industrial ecosystem, including vehicle research and development, advanced manufacturing, core component supply, and intelligent logistics operations. This integrated approach is designed to improve efficiency while strengthening the resilience and flexibility of MG’s European supply chain.

By increasing localized sourcing and production, MG aims to reduce dependence on global logistics networks while responding more quickly to changing market demands.

Supporting Europe’s Transition to Electric Mobility

The announcement comes as Europe’s automotive sector continues its transition toward electrification. With the European Union’s 2035 zero-emission targets driving investment across the industry, manufacturers are increasingly focusing on local production and innovation to remain competitive.

MG’s new Spanish facility is expected to play a key role in that transformation. Alongside manufacturing expansion, the company plans to deepen partnerships with European technology firms, research institutions, and local suppliers.

These collaborations will focus on future mobility technologies, including next-generation battery systems, intelligent transportation solutions, and clean energy innovations.

Advanced Battery and Hybrid Technologies

MG has recently strengthened its technology portfolio with several significant developments. Among the most notable is the introduction of the world’s first mass-produced SolidCore semi-solid-state battery, a technology designed to improve energy density and vehicle performance while supporting the next generation of electric vehicles.

The company has also expanded its lineup of Hybrid+ and plug-in hybrid technologies, offering consumers additional pathways toward lower-emission mobility.

These advancements reflect MG’s broader strategy of making advanced vehicle technologies accessible to a wider audience while accelerating the adoption of sustainable transportation.

Strong Momentum Across Europe

The investment builds on a period of rapid growth for MG across Europe. Earlier this year, the company celebrated the delivery of its one-millionth vehicle in the region, highlighting the brand’s growing popularity among European consumers.

Since returning to the UK market in 2011, MG has become one of Europe’s fastest-growing automotive brands. The company now operates through a network of more than 1,300 dealer partners across 34 European markets.

Adding to that momentum, MG’s parent company recently reached a major global milestone with the delivery of its 100-millionth customer vehicle worldwide.

Expanding EV and Hybrid Lineup

MG has also continued to broaden its product portfolio with several new vehicle launches aimed at both electric and hybrid buyers.

Recent additions include the all-new MG4 EV Urban and the MGS9 Plug-in Hybrid, the brand’s first seven-seat SUV offering three-row practicality and family-focused versatility.

The company has also introduced the MGS5 EV, MGS6 EV, and MG HS Hybrid+, further strengthening its presence across Europe’s growing EV and hybrid vehicle segments.

Meanwhile, the MG Cyberster remains a flagship model for the brand’s innovation efforts. The all-electric roadster combines MG’s sporting heritage with modern EV technology, showcasing the company’s ambitions in the performance EV market.

MG’s Vision for Europe

According to William Wang, Managing Director of MG UK and Europe, the company’s strategy extends beyond vehicle sales. MG aims to strengthen local manufacturing capabilities, expand research and development activities, and contribute to a more competitive European automotive ecosystem.

The new Spanish facility represents a major investment in that vision, positioning MG to play an increasingly important role in Europe’s transition toward cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable mobility.

As production begins later this decade, the Galicia plant is expected to become a key pillar of MG’s European operations, supporting both regional growth and the continued expansion of the brand’s electric and hybrid vehicle lineup.
