MG MGS9 PHEV Debuts as MG’s First 7-Seat Plug-In Hybrid SUV

The Chinese-British automaker MG has officially revealed the MG MGS9 PHEV, its first-ever seven-seat SUV, marking a major expansion of the brand’s electrified lineup.

Designed with families in mind, the new plug-in hybrid combines practical three-row seating, strong electric range, and a generous equipment list at a competitive price point.

Available to order now in the UK, the MGS9 PHEV will start at £34,205 and rise to £36,945 on the road.

Spacious and Versatile Family SUV

The MGS9 PHEV enters the growing large SUV segment with a focus on practicality and interior flexibility. Thanks to its three-row layout, the SUV can accommodate up to seven passengers.

Cargo capacity is equally impressive. With the third row folded flat, the SUV offers more than 1,000 liters of luggage space, making it suitable for everything from family holidays to everyday errands. Even with all seven seats in use, there is still 332 litres of cargo capacity, providing useful storage for daily life.

The new model is also longer and taller than the MG HS, giving it a stronger road presence and additional interior space.

Efficient Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain

Powering the MGS9 PHEV is MG’s proven plug-in hybrid system, already used in the award-winning HS. The setup combines:

– A 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine
– A 24.7 kWh battery pack

This configuration enables an electric-only driving range of up to 62 miles, allowing many daily commutes or school runs to be completed without using fuel.

The combination of electric capability and hybrid efficiency is designed to deliver low running costs while maintaining the flexibility of a petrol engine for longer journeys.

Premium Comfort and Technology

MG has equipped the MGS9 PHEV with a generous list of comfort and convenience features as standard.

Highlights include:

– Leather-style upholstery
– Large panoramic sunroof
– Heated, ventilated and massaging front seats
– Tri-zone climate control for improved passenger comfort

These features aim to deliver a more premium driving experience while maintaining MG’s reputation for strong value.

Top Safety Rating

Safety remains a key focus for MG. The MGS9 PHEV has already achieved a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, thanks to its extensive use of high-strength steel and a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance systems.

The SUV includes up to 16 advanced driver assistance technologies, helping improve occupant protection and driver confidence.

Strengthening MG’s SUV Lineup

According to David Allison, the new model represents an important step for the brand.

He noted that the MGS9 PHEV marks MG’s entry into the seven-seat SUV segment, offering families greater flexibility with the addition of a third row while maintaining strong efficiency and value.

Availability

The new MG MGS9 PHEV is available to order now in the UK, with full specifications expected to be announced later this month as the first vehicles begin arriving in MG showrooms.

With its combination of electric range, practicality, and competitive pricing, the MGS9 PHEV could become an appealing option for families looking to transition toward electrified driving without sacrificing space.
