Kia has announced that the EV4 has become the brand’s first model to qualify for the UK Government’s maximum Band 1 Electric Car Grant (ECG), unlocking a £3,750 discount for eligible versions of the electric hatchback.
The updated grant eligibility significantly improves the value proposition of Kia’s newest EV, reducing the entry price of the EV4 range to £30,995 on-the-road for the Air Standard Range model.
Kia EV4 Receives Maximum Government Grant
The latest announcement expands upon Kia’s earlier participation in the UK Electric Car Grant scheme. Previously, selected EV4 variants qualified for grant support, but the Air Standard Range, Air Long Range, and newly introduced Motion grades now receive the full £3,750 Band 1 incentive.
With the grant applied, pricing for the qualifying EV4 models is now as follows:
| Model | Battery | Price After Grant |
| EV4 Air Standard Range | 58.3kWh | £30,995 |
| EV4 Air Long Range | 81.4kWh | £33,245 |
| EV4 Motion Long Range | 81.4kWh | £36,745 |
The higher-spec GT-Line and GT-Line S versions are not included in the Band 1 grant eligibility. However, Kia continues to offer attractive purchase incentives, including 3.9% APR finance deals and no minimum customer deposit requirements. The GT-Line and GT-Line S variants also continue to benefit from a £3,000 finance deposit contribution.
New EV4 Motion Trim Joins the Range
Alongside the grant announcement, Kia has introduced the new EV4 Motion grade, positioned between the GT-Line and GT-Line S trims.
The Motion specification combines the practical styling of the EV4 Air with a more premium equipment list. Key features include:
– Harman Kardon eight-speaker premium audio system
– Cloth and artificial leather upholstery
– Heated outer rear seats
– Surround View Monitor
– Blind-Spot View Monitor
– Electrically adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support
Like most EV4 variants, the Motion is powered by a 201bhp front-mounted electric motor paired with Kia’s 81.4kWh battery pack.
Despite its enhanced equipment levels, the Motion retains the same 17-inch alloy wheels and exterior styling details found on the Air trim, including body-coloured mirrors and side sills.
The EV4 Motion is available exclusively as a five-door hatchback and is produced at Kia’s Žilina manufacturing facility in Slovakia.
Kia Expands Electric Car Grant Coverage
With the EV4 now qualifying for the highest level of government support, Kia currently offers four models under the UK Electric Car Grant scheme:
– Kia EV2

The expanded grant coverage strengthens Kia’s position in the UK EV market, providing buyers with a broader selection of affordable electric vehicles across multiple segments.

What Is the UK Electric Car Grant?
The UK Government’s Electric Car Grant is available only to electric vehicles that meet strict requirements covering emissions, driving range, sustainability standards, and warranty support.
Manufacturers must also demonstrate a commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) verification. The framework aligns corporate emissions reductions with global climate goals and net-zero targets.
Kia’s Long-Term Electrification Strategy
The EV4 grant milestone forms part of Kia’s broader sustainability roadmap. The company plans to launch 15 electric vehicles and 10 hybrid models globally by 2030.
Looking further ahead, Kia aims to power all manufacturing facilities with 100% renewable energy by 2040 and achieve carbon neutrality across its entire product lifecycle by 2045. Key initiatives include RE100 participation, lifecycle assessments for vehicle production, and continued expansion of its electric vehicle portfolio.
As government incentives become increasingly important in driving EV adoption, the Kia EV4’s new Band 1 grant eligibility makes the electric hatchback one of the most competitively priced long-range EV options available in the UK today.
