The all-new 2026 Lexus ES marks one of the biggest transformations in the model’s history. More than just a redesign, the eighth-generation ES introduces a new era for Lexus with both battery-electric and self-charging hybrid powertrains, an advanced digital platform, and a significantly more luxurious cabin.
Inspired by the bold LF-ZC Concept first shown at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show, the new ES blends sleek styling with modern technology while maintaining the comfort and refinement that have defined the nameplate for decades.
As one of the original Lexus models dating back to 1989, the ES has now evolved into a larger, more sophisticated luxury sedan aimed at both traditional hybrid buyers and customers ready to switch to fully electric driving.
Bigger Dimensions, More Premium Presence
The new Lexus ES grows substantially in size compared to its predecessor. Overall length increases by 165 mm to 5,140 mm, while the wheelbase stretches to 2,950 mm. Width and height also increase, creating a noticeably more spacious interior and a stronger road presence.
Despite the larger footprint, Lexus says the sedan retains elegant proportions thanks to its new “Clean Tech x Elegance” design philosophy. The styling combines aerodynamic efficiency with premium detailing inspired by the LF-ZC Concept.
At the front, the ES adopts a reinterpreted spindle body design with slim L-shaped lighting signatures and a cleaner EV-inspired face. Hybrid models feature an additional cooling aperture, while the battery-electric versions emphasize smooth surfaces for improved airflow efficiency.
The side profile delivers a sleeker appearance with a coupe-like silhouette and carefully sculpted surfaces that improve aerodynamic performance. At the rear, a full-width LED light bar and newly positioned L-shaped taillights create a wider and more modern stance.
Aerodynamic improvements play a major role in the new ES. Lexus added a fully covered underbody, airflow management fins, flush-style details, and active grille shutters on EV models to maximize efficiency, reduce noise, and improve stability at speed.
Luxury Interior Focused on Comfort and Simplicity
Inside, the new ES introduces a minimalist cabin focused on comfort, technology, and Lexus’ Omotenashi hospitality philosophy.
The dashboard layout is cleaner than before, with hidden touch-sensitive switches integrated into the trim. These controls remain invisible until the vehicle is powered on, helping create a more elegant interior design.
A new 14-inch infotainment display headlines the cabin, while a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster offers multiple display configurations. Lexus also redesigned the steering wheel with a smaller diameter and integrated controls.
Passenger space improves significantly thanks to the longer wheelbase. Rear-seat comfort is a major focus, especially on higher-grade EV models that feature reclining seats, heating, ventilation, massage functions, and an ottoman-style leg support.
The flagship rear comfort package even allows the front passenger seat to fold forward, creating limousine-like rear legroom similar to the larger Lexus LS.
Material quality has also been elevated with new synthetic leather finishes, bamboo-inspired trim elements, and dynamic ambient lighting with multiple themes and color options.
Higher trims gain a 17-speaker Mark Levinson Surround Sound audio system designed to create a more immersive in-cabin experience.
Hybrid and Electric Powertrain Options
The 2026 Lexus ES follows the brand’s multi-path electrification strategy by offering both hybrid and fully electric powertrains.
The hybrid lineup includes the ES 300h for Western Europe and the more powerful ES 350h for Eastern European markets. Both use Lexus’ latest sixth-generation hybrid technology and are available with front-wheel drive or E-Four all-wheel drive.
For EV buyers, Lexus introduces two battery-electric variants: the ES 350e and the range-topping ES 500e.
The front-wheel-drive ES 350e produces 224 hp and offers an estimated driving range of up to 581 km depending on specification.
The dual-motor ES 500e features DIRECT4 all-wheel drive and delivers 343 hp, cutting the 0-100 km/h sprint to just 5.5 seconds. Estimated range reaches up to 529 km.
Lexus also equips the EV models with advanced battery pre-conditioning and thermal management systems designed to maintain fast charging performance even in cold temperatures.
Using a 150 kW DC fast charger, the battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes under optimal conditions.
Interactive Manual Drive Brings More Driver Engagement
One of the most unusual features in the new ES 500e is Lexus’ Interactive Manual Drive system.
The technology simulates an eight-speed manual transmission experience in a battery-electric vehicle using virtual gear changes and paddle shifters. Lexus says the system is designed to create a more engaging connection between driver and vehicle while preserving the smoothness of electric power delivery.
The ES 500e also benefits from the latest DIRECT4 intelligent all-wheel-drive system, which continuously adjusts torque distribution between the front and rear axles for improved handling and stability.
More Advanced Technology and Safety
The new ES introduces a more powerful software platform that supports upgraded infotainment, improved connectivity, and expanded driver-assistance functions.
Lexus also integrates a new shift-by-wire system with a compact toggle-style gear selector mounted on the center console.
Additional features include digital interior mirrors, wireless charging trays, USB-C fast charging ports, and advanced climate control systems with air purification and nanoeX technology.
The brand’s focus on comfort extends to cabin quietness as well, with extensive aerodynamic optimization and improved sound insulation designed to create a more refined driving experience.
A Major Evolution for the Lexus ES
The 2026 Lexus ES represents a significant step forward for the brand’s global sedan lineup. By combining hybrid and fully electric powertrains with more space, premium comfort, and advanced technology, Lexus is positioning the ES as a serious contender in the evolving luxury EV and hybrid market.
With up to 581 km of electric range, a more sophisticated interior, and distinctive new styling, the latest ES shows how Lexus plans to balance electrification with traditional luxury values in the years ahead.
