2027 Hyundai IONIQ 9 Calligraphy Black Ink Debuts as a Premium Three-Row EV Flagship

Hyundai has unveiled the 2027 IONIQ 9 AWD Performance Calligraphy Black Ink, a new range-topping version of its flagship three-row electric SUV. Revealed during a media event near Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Savannah, Georgia, the new trim signals a stronger push into the premium EV SUV segment with a focus on luxury, design, and performance.

Set to arrive in U.S. dealerships this summer, the IONIQ 9 Calligraphy Black Ink will be assembled in Bryan County, Georgia, reinforcing Hyundai’s growing EV production footprint in North America.

A More Refined Take on Hyundai’s Flagship EV

The Calligraphy Black Ink trim builds on the already award-winning IONIQ 9 with a darker, more dramatic aesthetic. Hyundai positions it as the most luxurious electric SUV in its lineup, combining high-end materials with advanced technology and a powerful dual-motor setup.

The “Calligraphy” badge reflects Hyundai’s design philosophy—precision, craftsmanship, and attention to detail—while “Black Ink” emphasizes a bold, minimalist identity defined by clean lines and a stealth-inspired finish.

Blacked-Out Design Sets the Tone

Visually, the Black Ink edition leans heavily into an all-black theme. Finished in Abyss Black Pearl, it incorporates a series of exclusive exterior accents that give the SUV a more commanding and upscale presence.

Key design highlights include black chrome elements on the front skid plate and rear garnish, gloss black roof rails, and blacked-out window trim and emblems. Unique 21-inch turbine-style alloy wheels complete the look, enhancing both stance and aerodynamics.

The result is a more aggressive and sophisticated interpretation of the IONIQ 9’s already futuristic design language.

Premium Interior with Sustainable Materials

Inside, the cabin adopts a fully black theme with refined materials and comfort-focused features across all three rows. The six-passenger layout emphasizes relaxation and space, with first- and second-row relaxation seats offering power recline and ventilation.

Hyundai also integrates sustainable materials, including an eco-suede headliner derived from corn-based fibers. Aluminum trim elements feature organic, handcrafted patterns, adding a distinctive visual texture.

Heated third-row seats further enhance usability for families, reinforcing the model’s positioning as a practical yet premium electric SUV.

Performance: 422 HP and Ultra-Fast Charging

Under the hood, the IONIQ 9 Calligraphy Black Ink uses Hyundai’s most powerful configuration for the model. A dual-motor all-wheel-drive system produces 422 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, delivering strong acceleration for a vehicle in this segment.

A 110.3 kWh battery pack supports Hyundai’s 800-volt architecture, enabling ultra-fast DC charging at up to 350 kW. Under optimal conditions, the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 24 minutes.

The inclusion of a native NACS port ensures access to a rapidly expanding charging infrastructure, improving long-distance usability and convenience.

Technology and Comfort at the Forefront

The cabin is equipped with a wide array of advanced features designed to enhance both convenience and driving experience. A 10-inch head-up display provides key information directly in the driver’s line of sight, while a 14-speaker Bose premium audio system delivers high-quality sound.

Additional highlights include a digital rearview mirror, Remote Smart Parking Assist 2, and a panoramic roof that enhances the sense of space. Integrated front and rear dash cams add security, while Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality allows the SUV to power external devices.

Multiple high-output USB-C ports are available across all three rows, ensuring fast charging for passengers’ devices.

Positioning in the Premium EV SUV Segment

With the Calligraphy Black Ink trim, Hyundai is clearly targeting buyers looking for a luxury three-row electric SUV that blends performance, design, and practicality. The combination of bold styling, high output powertrain, fast charging capability, and a tech-rich interior positions the IONIQ 9 as a serious contender in the growing premium EV market.

As competition intensifies in this segment, the 2027 IONIQ 9 Calligraphy Black Ink stands out as Hyundai’s most ambitious electric SUV yet—delivering a compelling mix of sophistication, capability, and everyday usability.
