DENZA Z9GT to Debut in Europe with BYD’s Ultra-Fast FLASH Charging Technology

BYD’s premium EV brand DENZA has confirmed that its flagship Z9GT will introduce groundbreaking FLASH Charging technology to European customers when the model officially launches at an event at the Palais Garnier on April 8.

Developed by parent company BYD, the new charging system promises dramatically reduced charging times, helping address one of the final barriers preventing some drivers from switching to electric vehicles.

FLASH Charging: “Ready in 5, Full in 9”

The company describes its next-generation fast-charging approach with the principle “Ready in 5, Full in 9, Cold Add 3.”

The technology combines two key innovations: a new high-power charging station capable of delivering up to 1,500 kW of power through a single cable, and the second generation of BYD’s signature Blade Battery.

This updated battery retains the durability and safety advantages of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, while improvements in ion transport increase both energy density and charging efficiency. The result is faster charging across a broader temperature range with reduced long-term battery degradation.

In real-world terms, FLASH Charging enables:

– 10% to 70% charge in just 5 minutes – enough for several hundred kilometers of driving
– 10% to 97% charge in 9 minutes – effectively a full charge
– 20% to 97% charge in about 12 minutes at –30°C, thanks to improved cold-weather performance

DENZA Z9GT: Premium Electric Shooting Brake

Built on the dedicated e3 Platform, the Z9GT is designed as a premium electric shooting brake aimed at the high-end European EV market.

The model will feature a 122 kWh Blade Battery, delivering a driving range of up to 800 km in the rear-wheel-drive variant.

Performance is also a major focus. The triple-motor version of the all-electric Z9GT produces over 960 PS, enabling acceleration from 0–100 km/h in under three seconds.

Opera-House Audio Experience Inside

Inside the cabin, DENZA aims to deliver a distinctive luxury experience through a partnership with French audio specialist Devialet.

The system combines a bespoke speaker layout with Dolby Atmos immersive audio, designed to create what the brand describes as an “opera-house entertainment experience.” The setup precisely positions sound around the cabin, enhancing clarity, depth and spatial separation.

European Launch Marks Key Milestone

According to Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, the arrival of the Z9GT represents a major step for the brand’s global expansion.

“The introduction of the DENZA Z9GT in Europe marks a very important milestone for our brand,” Li said. “The ability to add hundreds of kilometres of range in just minutes, even in extremely low temperatures, perfectly reflects our vision for DENZA — technology that inspires, performance that excites and elegance that defines the future of premium mobility.”

FLASH Charging Infrastructure Expansion

Thousands of FLASH Charging stations have already been deployed across China. BYD plans to expand the network globally, with an initial wave of FLASH chargers planned for Europe to support the Z9GT’s market launch.

Additional details about the European charging rollout are expected to be announced closer to the vehicle’s debut in Paris.
