Amazon subsidiary Zoox has launched its first public robotaxi service in Las Vegas. Rides are free and available through the Zoox app, which can be downloaded on both iOS and Android devices.
“The autonomous vehicle industry has made remarkable strides this year, bringing us closer to a future of safer, more accessible mobility. With the launch of our fully driverless ride-hailing service using a purposefully designed robotaxi, we’re thrilled to be part of this groundbreaking journey,” said Aicha Evans, CEO of Zoox.
“Las Vegas is a city famous for unforgettable moments, and it is the ideal location for our debut. Zoox is about transforming the entire ride-hailing experience, making every ride a delightful experience.”
The company is in the early stages of rolling out its commercial robotaxi ride-hailing service, offering free rides for now to and from Resorts World, Topgolf, New York-New York, Luxor and Area 15.
How to Ride
– Request a Ride: Use the Zoox app to hail a vehicle. You can track your approaching robotaxi and, if a closer one becomes available, the app will automatically re-route it to you.
– Board the Vehicle: When your ride arrives, the app will notify you. Double-check the license plate to confirm it’s the right vehicle. For some locations, like Resorts World, Zoox has kiosks with staff on hand to help.
– Start Your Trip: Once you’re safely inside, press a button to close the sliding doors. Each vehicle seats four passengers in a face-to-face, “living room” style arrangement. There’s no steering wheel or pedals, so everyone has plenty of legroom. Before the ride begins, all passengers must buckle up and press the “start ride” button in the app.
Las Vegas is just the start for Zoox, which plans to expand to other major cities soon, including San Francisco, Austin, and Miami.
