Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng Motors has officially launched its new electric sedan, the Mona M03, at a significantly lower price than initially anticipated. The EV will be available in three variants, starting at just 119,800 yuan (approximately $16,800).
The Mona M03 is the result of a joint venture between Xpeng and Chinese ride-hailing service provider Didi. It offers three range options: the 515, 620, and 580 Max. The numbers correspond to the maximum driving range in kilometers, with the 515 variant boasting a 51.8 kWh battery and a range of 515 km.
The larger 620 and 580 Max models feature a 62.2 kWh battery and offer ranges of 620 km and 580 km, respectively. All batteries are supplied by BYD’s FinDreams division and utilize lithium iron phosphate chemistry.
Performance-wise, the entry-level 515 variant is equipped with a 140 kW motor, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds. The larger 620 and 580 Max models feature a more powerful 160 kW motor, enabling a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.4 seconds. The “Max” variant also offers a higher maximum torque of 250 Nm compared to the 620’s 225 Nm.
The Mona M03 has already garnered significant interest, with over 10,000 orders placed within an hour of its launch. Xpeng hopes that the affordable pricing and strong product features will help boost its sales, especially in light of the increasing competition in the Chinese electric vehicle market.
