Hyundai Motor Group is recalling around 170,000 EVs in South Korea over problems with software in the charging systems. The recall is over a software issue impacting Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, the Genesis GV60, GV70, and G80 EVs, as well as the Kia EV6.
In all, the company must repair 169,932 vehicles in South Korea whose ICCUs (integrated charging control unit) may have software errors, and may cause the vehicles to lose power while on the road.
Hyundai Motor will recall 113,916 EVs in the country, including Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, Genesis GV60, GV70, Electrified G80. Kia will recall and 56,016 units of the Kia EV6.
Hyundai and Kia will issue a software update once they receive the recalled models. If there’s still a faulty code, they will replace the ICCU.
“Hyundai Motor and Kia will take prompt actions to prevent customer inconvenience and will continue to prioritize the safety of our customers and their vehicles,” Hyundai Motor Group said in a statement.
The voluntary recalls are due to start on March 18.
