Following second quarter’s slight decrease in California’s EV sales numbers, Q3 of 2022 came back with a vengeance that even surpassed Q1’s record setting sales numbers by nearly 10,000 vehicles, according to tracking by Veloz – a Sacramento-based nonprofit dedicated to growing the adoption and understanding of electric cars by consumers.
With 90,065 electric vehicles sold in California, Q3 of 2022 surpassed Q3 of 2021 EV sales numbers by over 23,000 vehicles and surpassed Q3 of 2020 by over 52,000 vehicles, showing how rapidly consumer demand for EVs is increasing year over year. There is still a long road ahead though to achieve California’s goal of 350 million EVs on the road by 2050.
At 115 makes/models, the number of different EVs available in Q3 remained the same as Q2. However, 31 new electric makes/models joined the market last quarter, offering a increasingly diverse array of EVs in California to meet a broader range of driving need and grow the EV market. Even with continued supply chain constraints and growing economic concerns, the rising market share percentage of electric vehicles held strong in California at 17.7% this quarter.
