MG surpasses previous annual car sales in first five months of 2022

MG Motor UK has reaffirmed its status as one of the fastest growing car brands in the UK with a record start to 2022, selling more new vehicles between January and May 2022 than in the entirety of 2020.

New sales data has revealed the brand’s increasing popularity, with over 18,800 new vehicles registered in the first five months of this year – compared to 18,415 in 2020, and 30,579 in 2021.

Over 6,900 examples of MG’s ZS compact SUV range have been sold so far in 2022, reflecting the continuing popularity of the affordable compact SUV. Available in petrol or pure-electric specification, its sales success shows the increasing number of drivers switching to zero-emission vehicles.

The MG HS range also proved popular with customers, with over 6,000 examples of the large SUV finding homes this year. Available in petrol or plug-in hybrid specification, its range of family-friendly features and spacious interior offering broad appeal to motorists.

MG Motor UK’s showstopping resurgence looks set to continue, with brand new models promised later this year and a growing nationwide dealership network.

Commenting on the announcement, Guy Pigounakis, Commercial Director at MG Motor UK, said: “I am delighted with the success of our brilliant range of cars so far this year, and at the great feedback we’re receiving from customers. The growth the MG brand has experienced over the last few years reflects the quality and value of our range, and I look forward to seeing the impact of the new model releases later this year.”
