Andretti Formula E has announced the formation of Andretti Technologies, an independent enterprise that will operate within the Andretti Autosport company and focus primarily on producing the power train for the 2015/2016 Formula E season.
Andretti Technologies has partnered with global technology company TE Connectivity for a customised Formula E testing and trackside support program. In addition to producing the new powertrain technology for the second and future seasons of Formula E, Andretti Technologies will produce engineering solutions for the whole family of Andretti race teams and find transport innovations for both within and outside motorsport.
Andretti Technologies was one of eight companies who were granted manufacturing status by the FIA to develop new powertrain solutions from the second season of Formula E and beyond as the regulations open up to allow development of the e-motor, inverter and transmission.
For this weekend’s Visa London ePrix, Andretti Formula E’s cars will feature TE Connectivity’s orange livery and they will continue to do so through the team’s summer testing and development programme.
Andretti Autosport team principal, Michael Andretti, said: “I am happy to announce the creation of Andretti Technologies. As a racer, the automotive and motorsport industries as a whole have always been of great interest and a passion of mine. Having the opportunity to build on my racing background and provide an outlet for developing dynamic and sustainable clean-energy solutions not only exciting, but something I’m very proud of.”
Rob Shaddock, executive vice president and Chief Technology Officer, TE Connectivity, said: “TE’s connectivity and sensor products are critical to unleash advancements in technology that improve electric vehicle distance and performance. We are proud to work in close collaboration with Andretti Technologies to develop the next generation of electric vehicle technology.”
