Subaru VIZIV Concept Revealed in Geneva

Subaru-Viziv
Subaru has revealed the innovative VIZIV plug-in hybrid concept crossover vehicle at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

The two-door, Subaru VIZIV draws its name from “vision for innovation” and Subaru says the vehicle offers new future design direction and technology.

Subaru VIZIV concept provides high efficiency and performance on all road surfaces, thanks to its combination of future generation Boxer diesel hybrid engine and independent rear motor-driven All-Wheel Drive (AWD).

The dynamic exterior design features simple, clean surfaces and lines, plus the classic Subaru hexagonal front grille, the shape of which is echoed in the rear design too.

The body has a sporty, lean silhouette, highlighted by the Mistral silver metallic paint finish.

VIZIV’s refined interior also draws on Subaru’s traits of functionality, peace-of-mind driving and fun. And it’s not only the driver that has an array of visual information available – front and rear seat passengers have custom information displays too.

VIZIV’s rear wheels are totally driven by independent motors, eliminating the need for a propeller shaft and enabling a lower floor with ample legroom for rear seat passenger, despite the car’s compact size.[wzslider height=”400″ lightbox=”true”]The plug-in hybrid combines a 2.0-liter Boxer diesel and high-torque-compatible Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), plus a front motor that provides both vehicle drive and power generation, and two independent rear motors that provide drive-only.

The powertrain selects the best time to use each motor, according to strength and driving conditions, achieving high fuel efficiency.

The motors start and drive VIZIV during low-speed or city driving, while the diesel engine with CVT takes over on the highway.

A feature called Hybrid SI-DRIVE has an “Eco-Cruise” mode, aiding efficiency, while there are also “Intelligent” and “Sports” modes. VIZIV also has Subaru’s EyeSight stereo camera driver assist system.

Subaru VIZIV features independent rear motor-driven All-Wheel Drive (AWD). The system provides finely tuned control of all four wheels, matching the driving environment and road surface.

A coordinated management system controls power delivery between the front and rear wheels, increasing Subaru’s renowned active safety performance.

Turning the steering wheel increases drive power to the rear, meaning the car responds nimbly to driver input. Turning the steering wheel back increases front drive, emphasizing stability.

In stop-start city traffic, all wheels are driven by the motors from stationary starts, providing high torque and powerful acceleration, combined with low fuel consumption and a quiet ride.

By independently controlling drive power to the left and right rear wheels, the rear drive system delivers more torque to the outside rear wheel – and less to the inside rear – when cornering, achieving extremely quick and smooth response.

Therefore, the AWD system not only helps acceleration and all-terrain performance, but also uses drive to help turn the vehicle.

Along with its thrilling handling and cornering that responds accurately to driver input, VIZIV offers outstanding handling stability, secure feel and confident driving.
