Remy International will supply electric motors for AMP Electric Vehicle’s conversion of the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox.
Earlier this year, Ohio-based electric-car-conversion company unveiled its 100% electric 2010 Chevrolet Equinox at the grand opening of its U.S. production headquarters in Cincinnati.
Powered by Remy’s HVH250 electric motors, the electric Chevrolet Equinox has a range of up to 150 miles per charge, which is about 50 percent more than the Nissan LEAF.
The electric drivetrain, capable of powering the five-seat SUV from a stop to 60 mph in eight seconds, will consist of two Remy HVH250 motors powered by a 37-kilowatt hour lithium-ion battery packs.
Charging from a 220-volt outlet will take about three and a half hours for fully discharged battery packs on the vehicle. On a typical day of driving 40 miles, charging should take about one and a half hours, according to AMP.
AMP is pricing the electric Chevrolet Equinox at around $50,000, after government credits.
Remy already supplies electric motors Aptera, for GM hybrids including Cadillac Escalade hybrid. Last year, Remy nailed down a contract to supply electric motors for Daimler AG’s Mercedes ML-450 hybrid.
