The Japan Electric Vehicle Club announced that its customized Daihatsu Mira EV traveled exactly 1,003.184 kilometers (over 621 miles) without a recharge, surpassing the Guinness World Record they achieved last year.
The new record was made possible by driving the Mira EV at a driving course in Shimotsuma, Japan, during May 22 to 23, 2010.
The Mira EV has already achieved a 555.6 km (345 miles) run without recharging from Tokyo to Osaka, Japan on November 17, 2009, with this travel distance of 555.6 km having been officially recognized as the Guinness World Record last month.
The Mira EV is equipped with 8,320 SANYO cylindrical lithium-ion batteries (18650-type) which are normally used in laptops.
The Mira EV was driven for 27 hours at around 40km/h (24.8 mph) on average, with a team of 17 drivers taking turns at the wheel.
