Mitsubishi, Endesa Partner on Electric Cars

Mitsubishi and Spanish utility Endesa have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to launch a feasibility study on the development of recharging infrastructure and promote electric cars in Spain.

Under the agreement Mitsubishi will introduce its i-MiEV electric car in Spain while Endesa, owned by Italy’s largest power company Enel, would build EV related infrastructure to provide power to electric cars in the country.

The two companies also aim to widen their cooperation to other countries in the European Union and Latin America.

Mitsubishi and Endesa will conduct the feasibility study until the end of March 2011.

Earlier this year, Endesa signed similar agreement with the Renault-Nissan Alliance.

In April, Spanish government said it would invest 590m euros ($775m) in the production of electric vehicles over the next two years and hopes to see 250,000 such vehicles on the roads by 2014.
