Modi Corp Unveils Built-it-Yourself Electric Car

Japanese company Modi Corp has unveiled its build-it-yourself micro electric car which will be launched next year in Japan.

The electric car kit, dubbed Pius, comes with everything required to build an electric car from the ground up. You assemble the frame, suspension, wheels, cockpit, steering, rear view mirrors, electronics, wiring, drive train, and put the shell on.

At 2.5m long, the Pius is a car of diminutive proportions. Its top speed is just 35km/h (about 22 mph), and a full charge will only take you 25 kilometers (about 15 miles).

The price of the EV kit has yet to be released, but Modi Corp has confirmed that the Pius electric car will be ready for the commercial market sometime in 2013.

The company expects that the Pius will be used as an educational tool to learn the basic functions and structure of an electric car. They plan to sell it to universities, technology colleges, and car mechanics’ schools.
