Milence Opens Fifth Belgian Charging Hub With Megawatt Charging for Electric Trucks

Milence has officially opened a new electric truck charging hub in Temse, Belgium, expanding its European charging network and bringing megawatt charging technology closer to large-scale commercial use.

The new facility is the company’s fifth charging hub in Belgium and is strategically positioned along the North Sea–Mediterranean Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) corridor. Equipped with eight charging bays, including high-power Megawatt Charging System (MCS) technology, the site is designed to support the growing adoption of electric heavy-duty trucks across Europe.

Located between Antwerp and Ghent, the hub provides an important connection between two of Belgium’s major port and logistics regions, while supporting international freight transport routes towards France and Southern Europe.

The opening represents another step in Milence’s corridor-first strategy, which focuses on developing reliable public charging infrastructure along Europe’s busiest freight routes.

Megawatt Charging Technology Takes Center Stage

One of the most important features of the new Temse charging hub is its support for Megawatt Charging System technology, which could significantly improve the practicality of electric trucks operating over long distances.

The facility is part of the European MACBETH project, an initiative focused on accelerating the development and deployment of MCS technology for heavy-duty electric vehicles.

The project brings together industry partners to address the technical, economic and operational challenges associated with introducing megawatt charging on a larger scale.

Unlike conventional Combined Charging System (CCS) technology, MCS is designed to deliver substantially higher charging power. This allows electric trucks to replenish their batteries much faster, potentially reducing downtime during long-distance journeys.

Faster charging also makes it easier for truck operators to coordinate charging sessions with drivers’ mandatory rest breaks. This could improve vehicle utilization and make electric freight transport more competitive with conventional diesel-powered trucks.

As the European logistics industry looks for ways to reduce emissions, megawatt charging is expected to become an important part of the infrastructure needed to support long-distance electric transportation.

Temse Hub Offers Up to 1,500 kW Charging Power

The new Milence facility features eight charging bays, with a combination of MCS and CCS technology to accommodate different generations of electric trucks.

Four bays are equipped with hybrid MCS/CCS chargers capable of delivering up to 1,500 kW of charging power. The remaining four bays feature CCS chargers with maximum output of up to 400 kW.

This combination allows the hub to support today’s CCS-compatible electric trucks while also preparing for the next generation of heavy-duty vehicles equipped with megawatt charging capabilities.

The infrastructure is particularly relevant for logistics companies operating between major European ports, distribution centers and industrial regions, where charging speed and vehicle availability can have a direct impact on operating costs.

Milence is also placing emphasis on the needs of truck drivers, recognizing that charging infrastructure must offer more than just high-power connections.

The Temse hub includes several facilities designed to make charging stops more comfortable. Drivers have access to toilets, showers, coffee, vending machines and outdoor seating areas.

By combining high-power charging with basic driver amenities, the company aims to create facilities that can accommodate the practical requirements of long-distance freight operations.

This approach is particularly important as electric trucks become increasingly common on international routes, where drivers need suitable places to recharge both their vehicles and themselves.

Milence Targets More Affordable Electric Freight Transport

Charging costs remain an important consideration for logistics companies evaluating the switch from diesel trucks to battery-electric alternatives.

In Belgium, Milence’s charging prices start at €0.379 per kWh, excluding VAT, for ad hoc charging. The same starting tariff applies to both CCS and MCS charging at its Belgian locations.

The company also offers customized volume-based agreements, allowing businesses with higher charging requirements to potentially secure more competitive terms.

Transparent pricing and predictable operating costs will be essential for encouraging more transport operators to invest in electric trucks, particularly those running demanding long-distance routes.

As electric truck technology improves and charging networks expand, the economic case for zero-emission freight transport is expected to become increasingly attractive.

MACBETH Project Could Accelerate Electric Truck Charging Across Europe

The opening of the Temse hub highlights the growing importance of cooperation between charging providers, vehicle manufacturers and other stakeholders in the commercial transport industry.

Through its involvement in the MACBETH project, Milence is contributing to real-world testing of megawatt charging technology and helping identify the challenges that need to be addressed before widespread deployment becomes possible.

Testing MCS chargers under actual operating conditions will provide valuable information about performance, reliability and the practical requirements of electric long-distance transportation.

Further updates from the MACBETH project are expected in early 2027, offering additional insights into the progress of megawatt charging trials and the technology’s potential for wider adoption.

With its fifth Belgian charging hub now operational, Milence is strengthening an important European freight connection while helping prepare the logistics industry for a future in which electric trucks can travel longer distances with shorter charging stops.
