Volvo has confirmed that its fully electric EX30 Cargo is eligible for the UK Government’s Zero Emission Van Grant (ZEVG), reducing the purchase price by £2,500 for eligible business and fleet customers. The compact electric commercial vehicle is now available from £33,529 on the road after the grant is applied.
Based on the Volvo EX30 electric SUV, the EX30 Cargo combines zero-tailpipe-emission driving with a practical load area, modern technology and the safety features associated with the Swedish automaker. The grant could make it a more accessible option for businesses looking to transition to electric commercial vehicles.
The ZEVG is separate from the UK Government’s Electric Car Grant, which supports eligible passenger vehicles.
The Volvo EX30 Cargo has been developed for businesses that need a compact vehicle for transporting tools, equipment and other goods without switching to a larger commercial van.
The conversion replaces the rear seats with a flat load floor, creating up to 1,000 litres of cargo capacity and a maximum payload of 390kg. A purpose-designed bulkhead separates the passenger cabin from the load compartment, while modified rear side panels and doors help maximise usable space.
Volvo has also introduced wider-opening rear doors to simplify loading and unloading. An additional work light improves visibility inside the cargo area, while an underfloor subframe provides extra mounting and securing points for different commercial applications.
The EX30 Cargo is available in two versions: the standard EX30 Cargo and the EX30 Cross Country Cargo. The latter features increased ground clearance, offering an alternative for businesses that may need additional clearance for their working environments.
Both versions are available exclusively through Volvo Car UK’s fleet sales channels.
Businesses can choose between two powertrain configurations for the Volvo EX30 Cargo.
The P3 version produces 150 horsepower, while the more powerful P5 delivers 272 horsepower. The available specifications include Core and Plus trims, alongside the Cross Country Plus variant.
The vehicle is created through a second-stage conversion by Volvo Car UK. The conversion can be specified on newly ordered vehicles or applied to existing stock covering Model Year 2026 and Model Year 2027 vehicles.
This approach gives fleet operators additional flexibility when sourcing vehicles for commercial use.
Despite its conversion into a compact electric commercial vehicle, the EX30 Cargo retains a range of equipment from the passenger-car model.
Standard features include Volvo’s Safe Space Technology, Google Automotive Services, Adaptive Cruise Control, front and rear Park Assist, and a rear-view camera. Wireless smartphone connectivity and automatic LED headlights are also included.
An efficient heat pump is part of the standard equipment, helping manage cabin heating more efficiently in colder conditions.
These features allow businesses to combine the practicality of a small electric van with the comfort, driver assistance systems and connected technology expected from a modern passenger vehicle.
Jack Munford, Head of Fleet at Volvo Car UK, said the grant eligibility makes the EX30 Cargo a more compelling option for businesses considering fleet electrification.
He highlighted the £2,500 purchase incentive alongside the vehicle’s safety, comfort and technology as key advantages for customers evaluating the switch to electric commercial vehicles.
For businesses operating in urban areas or making regular local deliveries, a compact electric vehicle could help reduce tailpipe emissions while providing a dedicated cargo space for daily operations.
However, fleet operators should consider the vehicle’s 390kg maximum payload, charging requirements and available cargo volume when determining whether it meets their business needs.
The Volvo EX30 Cargo is on sale in the UK now, with prices starting at £33,529 on the road after the £2,500 Zero Emission Van Grant has been applied.
The grant is available to eligible business and fleet customers under the government’s scheme. Buyers should confirm the applicable eligibility requirements and final pricing with Volvo’s fleet sales team before ordering.
With its compact dimensions, up to 1,000 litres of load space and two powertrain options, the EX30 Cargo expands Volvo’s electric vehicle offering into the light commercial sector. The government grant further reduces its upfront cost for eligible businesses considering an electric alternative to conventional delivery and service vehicles.
