The award-winning Renault 5 E-Tech electric is getting a significant technology and efficiency upgrade for the 2027 model year, adding more range, smarter driving features and new personalization options without increasing its price.
For MY27, Renault has improved both versions of the Renault 5 E-Tech electric with aerodynamic upgrades and optimized battery electronics. The result is more driving range from both the 40kWh Urban Range and 52kWh Comfort Range powertrains.
The 40kWh battery paired with the 120hp Urban Range powertrain now delivers up to 197 miles of WLTP range, while the 52kWh battery and 150hp Comfort Range combination can travel up to 259 miles on a single charge.
Renault 5 Gets Smarter With New SmartMode
One of the biggest changes for the 2027 Renault 5 E-Tech electric is the introduction of SmartMode, which automatically adjusts the car’s driving mode based on driving conditions.
The system can switch between Eco, Comfort and Sport without requiring the driver to make the selection manually. For example, Sport mode can provide sharper responses during acceleration for an overtake, while the system can return to Eco when driving through slower urban areas.
Drivers who prefer full control can still select their preferred mode using the OpenR Link touchscreen or voice commands. Renault has removed the dedicated Multi-Sense button from the steering wheel as part of the update.
The Renault 5 also receives a new Qi2 magnetic wireless smartphone charger with cooling technology. The system is designed to improve charging efficiency while reducing heat buildup and can restore up to 50% of a compatible smartphone’s battery in an hour.
Renault has also updated the eCall emergency system to work with newer 4G and 5G mobile networks.
Google Gemini AI Comes to Renault 5
The 2027 Renault 5 E-Tech electric is also getting a more conversational digital assistant. Google Gemini AI will be available through an optional over-the-air update to Google Assistant.
Unlike traditional voice-command systems, Gemini is designed to support more natural conversations. Occupants can interact with the assistant more freely, interrupt responses and switch languages during a conversation.
The technology builds on the Google services already integrated into Renault’s OpenR Link infotainment system.
More Colors and Personalization Options
Renault is also expanding the ways customers can personalize the Renault 5 E-Tech electric.
Two new exterior colors, Flame Red and Shadow Grey, will join the range later in the year. Midnight Blue versions of the techno+ and iconic five+ models will also receive a contrasting red roofline.
New sticker packs will be introduced alongside the additional exterior colors, giving buyers more options to customize the retro-inspired electric hatchback.
Inside, the iconic five+ trim gets a new mottled blue upholstery design, replacing the previous yellow interior treatment. Other versions receive smaller upholstery and stitching updates.
The existing four-model lineup remains unchanged. The evolution version continues with the 40kWh, 120hp Urban Range powertrain, while techno+, iconic five+ and roland garros+ versions continue with the 52kWh, 150hp Comfort Range setup.
2027 Renault 5 Price Remains Unchanged
Despite the additional range, technology and personalization options, Renault is not increasing the price of the Renault 5 E-Tech electric for MY27.
The range continues to start at £21,495 on the road in the UK and remains eligible for the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant.

With more range, adaptive driving technology, upgraded smartphone charging, Google Gemini integration and additional customization options arriving without a price increase, the MY27 Renault 5 E-Tech electric receives a substantial update while retaining the same basic lineup and pricing structure.
