Kia is expanding its growing electric commercial vehicle lineup with the PV7, a larger all-electric van designed to build on the success of the PV5. The new electric van will make its global debut at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover, Germany, on September 14.
The PV7 is Kia’s second dedicated Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) model, following the PV5 launched in 2025. While the PV5 targets the compact electric van market, the PV7 moves Kia further into the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment with greater interior space and a broader range of potential applications.
Kia PV7 Builds on PV5 Success
The PV5 has quickly established itself as an important model for Kia’s electric commercial vehicle strategy. According to Kia, it became the best-selling small electric van in Europe, accounting for 37% of the segment through the first half of the year. In five European countries, the PV5 has captured more than half of C-segment EV van sales.
Kia has sold around 39,000 PV5 units globally through August, while continuing to expand the model with additional body styles and specialized versions.
The PV7 will take the same PBV concept into a larger vehicle category, offering more room and capability for businesses, fleet operators and lifestyle users.
Kia PV7 Design Previewed Ahead of Debut
Kia’s latest teaser images provide the first official look at the production PV7. Although the company is keeping many technical details under wraps until the September reveal, the images confirm a distinctive one-box van profile and a substantially larger footprint than the PV5.
The PV7 features a black hood and pillar garnish, contrasting with the body color, along with Kia’s signature front and rear lighting graphics. The design gives the electric van a more robust appearance while retaining the clean, modular styling established by the PBV family.
The larger dimensions are evident when comparing the PV7 with the PV5. The PV7 concept shown at CES 2024 measured 5,270 mm long, 2,065 mm wide and 2,120 mm high, with a 3,390-mm wheelbase.
For comparison, the PV5 Passenger measures 4,695 mm long, 1,895 mm wide and 1,915 mm high, with a 2,995-mm wheelbase.
Production specifications for the PV7 have not yet been confirmed, so the concept dimensions should not be treated as final.
Built on Kia’s E-GMP.S Platform
Like the PV5, the Kia PV7 will be built on Kia’s dedicated E-GMP.S platform, developed specifically for Platform Beyond Vehicle applications.
The modular architecture is central to Kia’s PBV strategy. Rather than creating a single electric van configuration, Kia is using the platform to support different body styles and specialized commercial applications.
That approach should allow the PV7 to serve a broad range of customers, from traditional commercial fleets to businesses requiring customized transportation solutions.
Kia has also indicated that future PV7 derivatives will help further expand its PBV lineup.
PV7 Targets Business and Lifestyle Applications
The PV7 is being positioned as more than a conventional delivery van. Kia says the larger model is designed to address evolving business and commercial mobility requirements while offering flexibility for different lifestyle applications.
The company’s teaser material highlights the PV7 in various everyday work and transportation environments, emphasizing its adaptability.
The PV7 is also expected to benefit from the technology introduced across Kia’s PBV lineup, including advanced connectivity and fleet-management capabilities. Kia has previously indicated that its PBV models will integrate Hyundai Motor Group’s Pleos Connect infotainment and software ecosystem.
Kia to Showcase Extensive PV5 Lineup
The PV7 will not be the only electric commercial vehicle Kia displays at IAA Transportation 2026.
The company plans to showcase a broad selection of PV5 derivatives, demonstrating how its modular PBV strategy can support different customer requirements.
The lineup will include: PV5 Cargo L2/H2, PV5 Cargo L1/H1, PV5 Chassis, PV5 Passenger 7-seat, PV5 WAV (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle) and PV5 Food Truck.
These configurations illustrate the flexibility Kia is targeting with its dedicated electric commercial vehicle architecture.
The PV5 also incorporates practical features aimed at reducing operating costs, including a tight turning radius for urban driving, a low cargo loading height and modular body construction designed to simplify repairs.
For fleet operators, those features could help reduce downtime and improve total cost of ownership.
Kia PV7 Electric Van: What to Expect
Kia is expected to reveal the remaining PV7 specifications, battery options, range, charging performance, payload capacity and pricing at its IAA Transportation debut.
The larger dimensions compared with the PV5 suggest that the PV7 will target customers who need substantially more cargo or passenger space without moving away from a fully electric powertrain.
The PV7 is expected to go on sale in 2027, although Kia has yet to announce detailed market-by-market availability or pricing.
With the PV5 already gaining significant traction in Europe, the PV7 could become an important second step in Kia’s push to establish itself as a major player in the electric commercial vehicle market.
