BMW Group has reached a major milestone in its electric vehicle journey, delivering its two-millionth battery-electric vehicle to a customer worldwide. The milestone comes as the company accelerates its electric vehicle strategy with the launch of the new Neue Klasse generation.
Since the original BMW i3 entered production in late 2013, BMW and MINI have delivered two million fully electric vehicles globally. Including plug-in hybrids, the BMW Group has now handed over around 3.5 million electrified vehicles since 2013.
The pace of electrification is also increasing. During the first half of 2026, more than one in four BMW Group vehicles sold worldwide was electrified, highlighting the growing contribution of EVs to the company’s overall sales.
The Neue Klasse is already having a significant impact on BMW’s electric vehicle sales, particularly in Europe.
In the second quarter of 2026, BMW Group BEV sales in Europe increased 38% year over year to 81,445 vehicles, helped by improving availability of the new BMW iX3.
Fully electric models represented approximately 28% of BMW Group sales in Europe during the first half of 2026. The BMW iX3 has quickly become a key part of that growth since its debut.
According to BMW, one in three fully electric BMW vehicles ordered in Europe since the iX3’s world premiere has been an iX3. The model is also proving particularly popular within the X3 lineup, with one out of every two X3-family vehicles ordered now being fully electric.
BMW board member Jochen Goller said the two-million-BEV milestone demonstrates the growing appeal of BMW and MINI electric models worldwide, while the strong European response to the iX3 highlights the importance of the Neue Klasse platform to the company’s broader electrification strategy.
The BMW Group’s two-millionth fully electric vehicle was a BMW i5 M60 xDrive, built at the company’s Dingolfing plant before being delivered to a customer in Spain.
At the same time, BMW is expanding the Neue Klasse lineup. Series production of the new BMW i3 began at Plant Munich in August 2026, marking the arrival of the second Neue Klasse model.
BMW says demand for the new electric sedan has already been strong since orders opened ahead of its market launch. The company expects production to ramp up quickly as it responds to customer demand.
The new i3 follows the BMW iX3 and is expected to play an important role in expanding the Neue Klasse technology across additional segments. The platform is designed to underpin a new generation of BMW electric vehicles, making it central to the automaker’s long-term EV strategy.
BMW’s latest sales figures show that its electric vehicle transition is moving beyond a handful of individual models. With the iX3 gaining traction and the new i3 entering production, the Neue Klasse is beginning to provide a broader foundation for BMW’s next generation of EVs.
The company is continuing to offer both battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, giving customers multiple electrified options while EV adoption increases across global markets.
BMW also points to a much longer history of electric mobility development. The company says it began laying the groundwork for its modern e-mobility strategy more than 50 years ago.
Reaching two million BMW Group BEVs delivered is therefore more than a sales milestone. With the Neue Klasse expanding and demand for models such as the iX3 showing strong momentum, BMW is entering a critical stage of its transition toward an increasingly electric lineup.
