XPENG L03 Unveiled as an Affordable Electric SUV for Europe

XPENG has officially introduced the L03, its most affordable electric vehicle to date, during the company’s Global Brand Event in Munich. Designed to compete directly with mainstream electric SUVs from Tesla, Hyundai, and Škoda, the new model combines competitive pricing, impressive charging performance, and advanced driver assistance technology.

Alongside the L03, XPENG also outlined its long-term vision of an AI-powered mobility ecosystem where electric vehicles, humanoid robots, and flying cars share a common technology platform built around the company’s in-house Turing AI chip and World Foundation Model.

For European buyers, however, the spotlight belongs to the new L03.

XPENG Targets the High-Volume EV Market

Measuring 4.65 meters in length, the XPENG L03 slots below the G6 in the company’s lineup and is aimed squarely at Europe’s most competitive electric vehicle segment.

With a starting price of €35,600, the L03 undercuts several key rivals like Tesla’s Model Y, Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 and Škoda’s Elroq.

Despite its lower price, the entry-level L03 delivers 180 kW (241 hp), outperforming the base versions of several competitors.

Four Fully Electric Versions Available

The XPENG L03 is offered in four battery-electric variants, all using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology.

The lineup includes:

– The RWD Standard Range features a 58.3 kWh battery, produces 180 kW, and delivers up to 445 km (277 miles) of WLTP driving range.

– The RWD Long Range upgrades to a 71.2 kWh battery and increases range to 520 km (323 miles), while starting at €38,600.

– Drivers seeking stronger performance can choose the AWD Performance model, which generates 285 kW (382 hp) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.5 seconds.

– The flagship Ultra trim adds XPENG’s most advanced AI hardware, premium equipment, and additional technology features.

All versions have an electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph) and benefit from an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.228, placing the L03 among the most aerodynamic SUVs in its class.

Range-Extended Version Coming Later

XPENG also confirmed a range-extender (REEV) version scheduled to launch in autumn.

The model pairs a 37.25 kWh battery with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that functions solely as a generator. Preliminary figures suggest more than 200 km (124 miles) of electric driving and a combined driving range approaching 1,000 km (621 miles). Final WLTP certification is still pending.

400-Volt Platform Delivers Surprisingly Fast Charging

Although the L03 uses a conventional 400-volt electrical architecture, it delivers charging performance normally associated with more expensive electric vehicles.

Maximum DC charging reaches 236 kW, allowing the battery to charge:

– 10% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes
– 20% to 80% in just 18 minutes

While XPENG’s 800-volt G6 remains significantly quicker, the L03’s charging speed is highly competitive for an EV priced below €40,000.

Standard equipment also includes a heat pump and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability with up to 6 kW of external power output.

AI-Powered Interior and Advanced Driver Assistance

Inside, the L03 features a minimalist cabin centered around a 15.6-inch infotainment display, complemented by a wide 26.8-inch head-up display.

The flagship Ultra model introduces XPENG’s newest AI platform powered by two proprietary Turing chips, delivering up to 750 TOPS (tera operations per second) each. The hardware supports the company’s latest Next Generation Pilot (NGP) running on the Vision-Language-Action (VLA 2.0) architecture, combining camera, radar, and AI language models to better understand complex driving situations.

Despite the advanced technology, European models remain limited to Level 2+ driver assistance due to current regulations. XPENG expects broader autonomous driving capabilities to become possible after new European legislation is introduced, potentially beginning in 2027.

Premium Equipment Comes Standard

XPENG has equipped the L03 generously across the range.

Standard features include heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass roof, the XOPERA premium audio system, seven airbags, and more than 13 driver assistance functions under the XPILOT safety suite.

The company is targeting a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, although official crash testing has not yet been completed.

Vehicle deliveries in Europe are expected to begin during the fourth quarter of 2026. XPENG will back the L03 with a seven-year/160,000 km vehicle warranty and an eight-year battery warranty.

Google Maps Becomes Native Navigation Platform

One of the most significant announcements accompanying the L03 launch was XPENG’s new partnership with Google Maps for vehicles sold outside China.

The company will build its proprietary navigation system using Google Maps Auto SDK, making XPENG the first automaker from the Asia-Pacific region to integrate the platform directly into its vehicles.

Rather than requiring smartphone mirroring or a standalone Google Maps app, drivers will use XPENG’s own navigation interface while benefiting from Google’s mapping technology, including:

– Real-time traffic routing
– EV energy consumption estimates
– Intelligent trip planning
– Extensive place search
– Continuously updated map data

The upgraded navigation system will debut on overseas versions of the XPENG L03 before expanding to additional models.

Google Maps data will also support future international deployment of XPENG’s advanced NGP driver assistance system, providing the detailed mapping information required for increasingly sophisticated autonomous driving functions.

ElectricCarsReport Take

The XPENG L03 enters one of Europe’s most competitive EV segments with an attractive combination of affordability, solid driving range, remarkably fast charging for a 400-volt platform, and generous standard equipment. Native Google Maps integration further strengthens its appeal by offering a seamless connected driving experience without relying on smartphone mirroring.

If XPENG delivers on its promised pricing, technology, and quality, the L03 could become one of the strongest alternatives to established models such as the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Škoda Elroq, while helping the Chinese automaker expand its presence across Europe.
