ChargePoint and Onvo to Install Ultra-Fast EV Chargers Across Northeast Highways

ChargePoint and Onvo have announced a new partnership to expand ultra-fast electric vehicle charging along major highway corridors in the northeastern United States. The collaboration will bring high-speed DC fast charging to a dozen travel plazas in Pennsylvania and New York, helping improve charging access for drivers on long-distance journeys.

The project represents another step toward strengthening the region’s EV charging infrastructure as electric vehicle adoption continues to grow across the United States.

12 Highway Travel Plazas to Receive Ultra-Fast Charging

The first phase of the rollout includes 12 Onvo travel plaza locations strategically positioned along major highways in Pennsylvania and New York. Each site will be equipped with ChargePoint Express Plus DC fast charging stations capable of delivering reliable, high-power charging for a wide range of electric vehicles.

The locations have been selected to support long-distance travel, addressing gaps in existing highway charging coverage while providing convenient stops for EV drivers.

Beyond fast charging, the travel plazas offer amenities including restaurants, retail stores, and other services, allowing drivers to make productive use of charging time.

ChargePoint Express Plus Supports High-Power Charging

The new installations will utilize ChargePoint’s Express Plus platform, which is designed to deliver consistent high-power charging performance while supporting simultaneous charging of multiple vehicles from a single system.

The charging hardware is compatible with virtually every electric vehicle currently on the road, making the network accessible to drivers regardless of vehicle brand.

As battery technology and charging capabilities continue to improve, high-power charging locations like these are becoming increasingly important for reducing travel times and improving the overall EV ownership experience.

Supporting the Growth of Electric Mobility

According to ChargePoint CEO Rick Wilmer, the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to deploying ultra-fast charging at convenient highway locations that also provide valuable amenities for drivers. Expanding reliable charging along major travel routes is expected to make long-distance EV travel more practical and accessible.

Onvo also sees the partnership as an opportunity to better serve a growing number of electric vehicle owners. Harman Aulakh, Vice President of Marketing at Onvo, said the company is focused on providing convenient, high-performance charging for drivers traveling across its network of highway travel plazas.

Strengthening the Northeast’s EV Charging Network

Reliable highway fast charging remains one of the most important factors in accelerating EV adoption. By bringing additional ultra-fast charging stations to key travel corridors, the ChargePoint and Onvo partnership will help improve charging availability in Pennsylvania and New York while giving drivers greater confidence when planning longer trips.

As more drivers transition to electric vehicles, investments in strategically located fast-charging hubs with food, retail, and other traveler amenities are expected to play an increasingly important role in supporting everyday travel and reducing range anxiety.
