Mercedes-Benz VLE Debuts as Electric Grand Limousine with 700 km Range

Mercedes-Benz is entering a new chapter in electric mobility with the debut of the Mercedes-Benz VLE, an all-new electric Grand Limousine designed to combine luxury limousine comfort with the versatility of a spacious MPV.

Built on the brand’s new modular Van Architecture, the VLE introduces advanced electric technology, next-generation software, and a flexible interior capable of seating up to eight passengers.

With an estimated WLTP range of over 700 km, 800-volt charging technology, and AI-powered digital systems, the VLE aims to redefine premium electric transport for families, shuttles, and long-distance travel.

A New Platform for Mercedes Electric Vans

The VLE is the first model developed on Mercedes-Benz’s new scalable Van Architecture, designed to underpin a wide range of future electric vans and luxury people movers.

The vehicle’s sleek, low silhouette and carefully sculpted body deliver impressive aerodynamics, with a drag coefficient of just 0.25. This design helps maximize efficiency and range while maintaining the premium visual presence expected from a Mercedes-Benz flagship.

Long Range and Ultra-Fast Charging

One of the highlights of the VLE is its long-distance capability.

The VLE 300 electric features a new 115 kWh battery and offers a driving range of more than 700 km (WLTP). With its advanced 800-volt electrical architecture, the vehicle can add up to 355 km of range in just 15 minutes at high-power DC fast chargers.

Key powertrain highlights include:

– Up to 203 kW output for the VLE 300 electric
– Future VLE 400 4MATIC electric with more than 300 kW
– 0–100 km/h in 6.5 seconds for the performance version
– Up to 300 kW DC fast-charging capability
– Optional bidirectional charging support

Mercedes also plans additional variants with 80 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate batteries in the future.

Limousine Comfort with MPV Versatility

The VLE blends luxury sedan refinement with the practicality of a multi-purpose vehicle.

Features designed to improve ride quality and handling include:

– AIRMATIC air suspension with 40 mm level control
– Rear-axle steering with a turning circle of just 10.9 meters
– Exceptional sound insulation and vibration isolation
– A rigid body structure for smoother long-distance travel

These systems give the VLE limousine-like comfort while maintaining agility in tight urban environments.

Flexible Interior for Up to Eight Passengers

Inside, the VLE focuses on adaptability and space. Buyers can configure the interior with five to eight seats, including several new seat designs:

– Comfort Seat (manual)
– Premium Comfort Seat (electric)
– Grand Comfort Seat with massage, lumbar support, wireless charging, and calf support

The new Roll & Go seating system allows seats to slide, reposition, or be removed entirely. For electrically adjustable seats, Mercedes introduces Remote Variable Rear Space, enabling passengers to reposition seating through the infotainment system or mobile app.

Preconfigured modes include:

– Baggage mode for maximum cargo space
– Executive mode for extra legroom
– People & Baggage mode for balanced seating and storage
– Standard mode

Cargo capacity ranges from 795 liters to 4,078 liters depending on seating configuration.

A Digital Interior Experience

The VLE’s cabin is packed with next-generation digital technology powered by the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS).

The cockpit can feature the MBUX Superscreen, which combines three displays under a single glass panel:

– 10.25-inch driver display
– 14-inch central touchscreen
– Optional 14-inch passenger display

Passengers in the rear can enjoy an immersive entertainment system with a 31.3-inch retractable panoramic screen featuring 8K resolution, split-screen capability, and an integrated camera for video conferencing.

The system supports over 40 apps, including streaming services, gaming platforms, and video conferencing tools.

AI-Powered MBUX Virtual Assistant

The latest Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system introduces an AI-driven virtual assistant capable of natural conversations with passengers.

Using generative AI technologies including ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, and Google Gemini, the assistant can understand complex requests, maintain conversational context, and provide personalized responses.

The navigation system is also powered by Google Maps, enabling intelligent route planning with automatic charging stops and real-time traffic data.

Designed for Families, Shuttles and Adventures

Mercedes designed the VLE to serve multiple lifestyles.

For families, practical touches include:

– Dual electric sliding doors with optional hands-free access
– A separately opening rear window for easy cargo loading
– Walk-through access from cockpit to rear seating
– Three-zone climate systems for fast temperature control

For leisure and outdoor activities, the VLE offers up to 2.5 tonnes towing capacity, making it capable of pulling caravans, boats, or horse trailers.

A New Era for Mercedes Electric Vans

With the launch of the VLE, Mercedes-Benz is expanding its electric lineup into the premium multi-purpose vehicle segment.

Combining long-range electric capability, limousine comfort, and a highly flexible interior, the VLE introduces a new concept in luxury electric transport—one that could reshape how large families, business travelers, and shuttle operators move in the electric era.
