SAIC-GM-Wuling Launches Xing Guang S SUV With Electric And Plug-In Hybrid Power

SAIC-GM-Wuling has launched the all-new Wuling Xing Guang S (Starlight S) family SUV in China. Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and all-electric versions are available nationwide from RMB 99,800 to RMB 129,800 ($14,400 to $16,800). Over 10,000 pre-orders have been received since the beginning of August.

The Xing Guang S is the first dual-power option SUV based on SAIC-GM-Wuling’s Tianyu architecture D platform. It continues the Xing Guang nameplate’s aesthetic design concept, inspired by the starry sky. The front end features the family’s winged styling, enhancing its presence. The interior design language is simple yet warm, with matte leather adding a touch of sophistication.

The Xing Guang S has segment-leading dimensions. Its length of 4,745 mm, width of 1,890 mm, height of 1,680 mm and wheelbase of 2,800 mm provide a spacious interior for all occupants. The flexible seating layout supports various scenarios, with the front seats capable of folding 180 degrees to connect with the rear seats, forming two “nap beds.”

The roomy 4/6 split-folding rear seats can be adjusted up to 127 degrees, providing ergonomic support and comfort for long journeys. Along with 23 storage spaces, the Xing Guang S has up to 1,768 liters of storage space with the rear seats folded down.

The Xing Guang S achieves low energy consumption through stronger energy output and more efficient energy transfer. Nineteen design features bolster the low drag coefficiency, increasing range by 20 km. Additionally, the dual-layer flow automatic variable frequency HVAC system reduces energy consumption by about 20% in winter.

The PHEV model has a combined range of over 1,100 km and a choice of two pure electric ranges: 60 km and 130 km. Fuel consumption is as low as 3.9 liters/100 km (NEDC) and 4.98 liters/100 km (WLTC 60-km version). It features the acclaimed Lingxi propulsion dedicated engine and a high-efficiency electric drive system, with up to 150 kW of power and peak torque of 310 Nm, along with 0-100 km/h acceleration of 7.9 seconds.

The EV model has a range of up to 510 km and 0-100 km/h acceleration of 7.7 seconds. All models come standard with 2C fast charging, adding 200 km of range in 15 minutes, and charging from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes. The Xing Guang S also supports DC fast charging.

The Xing Guang S adopts a six-ring steel frame, with high-strength steel accounting for 82.5% of the body structure. There are also 24 key collision positions with 1,500 MPa hot-formed parts and energy-absorbing boxes in the front and rear bumpers, as well as an aviation-grade 3G-AHSS ultra-high-strength steel battery box with a 1,200 MPa ultra-high-strength steel floor. The front bumper and energy-absorbing boxes use aluminum alloy materials with a thickness of 2.5 mm, effectively protecting passengers and battery safety.

Six air bags and 360-degree HD imaging combined with the transparent chassis feature that provides an ultra-wide-angle view come standard. The flagship model is equipped with a Level 2 driving assistance system for added convenience.

The Xing Guang S adopts front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension. The anti-pinch electric tailgate has a customizable maximum opening angle and memory function. The flagship model’s driver and passenger seats are electrically adjustable and equipped with ventilation and heating functions.

The front row is protected by double-layer laminated soundproof glass that significantly reduces driving noise with performance beyond its segment. A 3.3-kW power output function that enables users to connect their household appliances such as induction cookers and ovens makes the Xing Guang S ideal for camping and family fun.
