Tesla Supercharger access officially open to Rivian owners

Rivian customers now have access to the North American network of Tesla Superchargers, the company announced on Monday. This adds over 15,000 compatible DC fast chargers for Rivian vehicles to charge at quickly, seamlessly and conveniently.

This is in addition to the 16,000 existing fast chargers they already have access to through other public charging networks.

Access to the Supercharger network will require an adapter at first, which Rivian will begin shipping to all owners this spring for free.

The North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector used on Superchargers is becoming widely adopted across the industry, so starting in 2025, Rivian electric vehicles will ship with new, fully integrated NACS hardware.

Ford was the first to start offering the NACS adapters last month for free. Ford will start charging $230 for the adapters after June 30.

Nearly every major automaker has announced NACS compatibility for some or all of their forthcoming EVs since Tesla first initiated the move to open up access to its charging network in late 2022.

Rivian plans to notify current owners via their vehicle’s screen, providing a QR code for reserving the adapter.

Rivian has also been building out its own fast EV charging network, named the Rivian Adventure Network, which the company says it is designed to extend access to reliable fast charging across the US. Rivian currently has over 424 live Rivian Adventure Network chargers open at 70 sites across 22 states.
