SK to showcase multiple EV technologies at CES 2023. SK Group’s major affiliates to exhibit EV batteries, materials, and infrastructure at CES 2023.

SK Group will unveil its “EV ecosystem”, which comprises the world’s thinnest copper foil for secondary batteries (4 ㎛) and an EV battery that drives 400 km on a single charge. “Mobility” has been chosen as one of the main themes at CES 2023, the world’s largest technology exhibition. It is expected that visitors from around the globe will show increased interest in SK Group’s battery-related products and technologies.

SK Innovation subsidiary SK On is planning to showcase the SF (Super Fast) battery, the fastest-charging battery currently on the market. SK On’s special coating technology allows up to 80% charge in 18 minutes, with a range of more than 400 km on a single charge. At CES 2023, the battery technology won the Best of Innovation Award in the “Embedded Technologies” category for the first time in the battery industry and the Innovation Award Honoree in the “Vehicle Tech & Advanced Mobility” category.

SK IE Technology (SKIET) is planning to unveil the lithium-ion battery separator (LiBS), which won the CES 2023 Innovation Award Honoree. The separator is a film-type material which is a key component in lithium-ion batteries. And it ensures cell safety by blocking direct contact between anodes and cathodes within a cell. SKIET’s LiBS applies the eco-friendly ENPASS™ Ultrathin Ceramic Coated Separator (CCS), which has strong heat resistance, and the world’s first Sequential Stretching technology, which can freely extend the separator with uniform quality. Also, the UD Tape, SK Geo Centric’s lightweight material for vehicles, won its first Innovation Award Honoree and will showcase its high-functioning composite material that reduces the EV’s weight.

The world’s thinnest, longest, and widest copper foil product, manufactured by SK Nexilis (SKC’s copper foil investment company), is also expected to attract attention. Copper foil is an essential material used in EV secondary batteries. SK Nexilis produces copper foil up to 77 km long, with a thickness of 4 ㎛ (1 millionth of a meter) and a width of 1.4 m. SKC will also display the silicon anode material, a future anode material that significantly increases battery mileage and charging speed. SKC plans to start constructing a production plant for the silicon anode material next year.

SK E&S will unveil COVE, a home EV charger manufactured by the American EV charging company EverCharge, which SK E&S acquired in March last year. EverCharge’s charger distributes power efficiently by analyzing the charging patterns of EVs and effectively manages a building’s entire power load. SK E&S plans to expand its market share in the fast-growing U.S. EV charging market by utilizing EverCharge’s unparalleled technology.

SK Signet, a subsidiary of SK, will unveil V2, its new standard ultra-fast charger. This product enables stable and fast charging based on improvements in power module efficiency, a key component of EV chargers. SK Signet’s Ultra-Fast Chargers make it possible for you to travel up to 32km within a minute’s charge and can charge an EV from 20% to 80% in 18 minutes.

Its battery diagnosis function, created in joint development with SK On, checks the battery condition simultaneously during charging. V2 is scheduled to be manufactured at SK Signet’s Texas plant and is the first ultra-fast charger to be produced in the U.S. SK Signet plans to start pilot operation in the first quarter of next year and solidify its No. 1 position in the U.S. market for ultra-fast chargers.

SK Group’s products and technologies for EV batteries, materials, and infrastructure will be shown in “Clean Mobility,” the first corner of the “SK, Around Every Corner” Zone at the SK Group exhibition in CES 2023.
