Audi A6 Sportback e-tron Sets Guinness World Record With 1,338 km on One Charge

The Audi A6 Sportback e-tron has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance driven by an electric car on a single charge, covering an astonishing 1,338 kilometers (831 miles) in real-world traffic.

European Rally Champion Miko Marczyk completed the record attempt in a standard Audi A6 Sportback e-tron Performance, driving across Poland and back without recharging. The most remarkable part of the achievement, however, may not be the distance itself. The car averaged just 7.09 kWh/100 km, demonstrating how dramatically efficiency can affect EV range when every aspect of the drive is optimized.

Audi A6 e-tron Travels 1,338 km Without Charging

Marczyk began the Guinness World Record attempt at 1:55 a.m. on September 11, setting off from Poland and following a route along the Vistula River.

The journey passed through cities including Kraków, Sandomierz, Warsaw, Toruń and Grudziądz before reaching Hel on Poland’s Baltic coast. The driver then turned around and followed the route back.

After more than 45 hours on the road, the attempt ended between Toruń and Ciechocinek, with the Audi having traveled exactly 1,338 km on a single battery charge.

Audi says the car was driven in regular traffic, including during rush-hour periods, and was not recharged during the journey. Temperatures averaged around 15 degrees Celsius, although they dropped to approximately 7 degrees Celsius in Grudziądz during the early morning.

The result is particularly impressive when compared with the car’s official range rating. The Audi A6 Sportback e-tron Performance is rated for up to 777 km (483 miles) under the WLTP cycle, meaning Marczyk exceeded that figure by 561 km.

The average consumption was only 7.09 kWh/100 km, an exceptionally low figure for a production electric vehicle.

Efficiency Was More Important Than Speed

The record attempt was fundamentally different from normal driving. Instead of trying to reach the destination quickly, Marczyk’s objective was to use as little energy as possible.

That meant maintaining a steady pace, anticipating traffic, minimizing unnecessary acceleration and braking, maintaining correct tire pressure and making strategic use of regenerative braking.

Audi’s A6 Sportback e-tron Performance uses a 94.9-kWh usable battery, meaning the recorded consumption allowed the car to travel far beyond its official WLTP range.

The result does not mean an A6 e-tron owner can routinely expect more than 800 miles of range. Highway speeds, cold weather, heating or air conditioning, traffic conditions and aggressive acceleration can dramatically increase energy consumption.

Instead, the record demonstrates what is possible when efficiency becomes the sole priority.

Aerodynamics Played a Major Role

One of the biggest advantages of the Audi A6 Sportback e-tron is its aerodynamic design.

The car has a drag coefficient of just 0.21, making it Audi’s most aerodynamic production vehicle to date. Aerodynamics become increasingly important as vehicle speed rises because air resistance requires more energy to overcome.

Audi estimates that aerodynamic drag accounts for roughly 40% of the A6 Sportback e-tron’s energy consumption during the WLTP test cycle.

The Sportback body style therefore provides an important advantage during a long-distance efficiency run. Reducing aerodynamic resistance allows more of the battery’s energy to be converted into forward motion rather than being lost overcoming air resistance.

The car also uses an 800-volt electrical architecture and can recover up to 220 kW through regenerative braking. According to Audi, around 95% of everyday braking maneuvers can be completed without relying on the conventional mechanical brakes.

The A6 e-tron Wasn’t a Low-Power Special

Another interesting aspect of the record is that the Audi used for the attempt was not a stripped-down, low-performance prototype.

The A6 Sportback e-tron Performance produces 367 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in approximately 5.4 seconds.

It is essentially a production-specification performance model, showing that impressive efficiency does not necessarily require sacrificing performance.

The combination of the PPE platform, large battery, low aerodynamic drag and careful driving allowed Marczyk to extract an extraordinary amount of distance from the available energy.

“Even for me, a result of 1,338 kilometers was a pleasant surprise,” Marczyk said, attributing the achievement to the interaction between the drivetrain, battery and vehicle aerodynamics.

The Record Comes With an Important Catch

While 1,338 km on a single charge is an impressive Guinness World Record, it should not be interpreted as the everyday range of the Audi A6 Sportback e-tron.

The record was achieved under highly controlled driving priorities. Marczyk’s goal was to maximize efficiency rather than travel at normal motorway speeds.

A driver cruising at 130 km/h, using climate control extensively and maintaining a safety buffer of remaining battery capacity would experience substantially higher energy consumption.

That distinction is important when comparing EV range records. Such attempts are designed to explore the maximum efficiency potential of a vehicle rather than replicate a typical daily commute or road trip.

In this case, the 7.09 kWh/100 km efficiency figure may actually be more revealing than the 1,338-km distance.

It highlights the impact of aerodynamic drag, rolling resistance, regenerative braking, battery efficiency and driving technique on the real-world energy consumption of an electric vehicle.

Audi A6 e-tron Shows How Far EV Efficiency Can Go

Miko Marczyk is no stranger to extreme efficiency challenges. In March 2025, he covered 2,831 km on a single tank of diesel in a standard fourth-generation Škoda Superb 2.0 TDI, averaging just 2.6 liters per 100 km.

The Audi record represents a similar challenge using electric propulsion, replacing the focus on maximizing kilometers per liter with maximizing kilometers from every kilowatt-hour.

The achievement provides another demonstration of how much range can be unlocked through efficiency rather than simply installing a larger battery.

The Audi A6 Sportback e-tron combines a large battery with an exceptionally aerodynamic body, efficient electric drivetrain and sophisticated energy recuperation. When those advantages are combined with an extremely conservative driving strategy, the result is a 1,338-km single-charge Guinness World Record.

For everyday drivers, an 800-mile journey on one charge remains unrealistic. But the record shows that the underlying technology has considerable efficiency potential—and that aerodynamic design and energy management can be just as important to EV range as battery capacity.
