Nissan LEAF e+ Named ‘Product Of The Year’ At 2019 Pocket-Lint Awards

The Nissan LEAF e+ has been named overall ‘Product of the Year’ as well as ‘Best Car’ at the EE Pocket-lint Awards 2019. The awards celebrate the best technologies, gadgets and games of the last 12 months, as voted for by both the industry and general public.

Shortlisted from the hundreds of products Pocket-lint reviewed this year, the final 19 winners are the best of the best in their categories. In the ‘Best Car’ award, the LEAF e+ championed over a shortlist including models from Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Tesla, whilst in the overall ‘Product of the Year’ category, Nissan’s 100% electric vehicle was recognised above products from brands including Apple, Nintendo, Sony and Amazon.

Commenting on the LEAF’s performance in the awards, the Pocket-lint judges said; “The Nissan LEAF is one of our favourite cars and the e+ takes the range to a higher level. It’s a hatch rather than a crossover or SUV but offers more space than you might first think. The interior tech and the overall comfort is appealing, making it a very easy car to live with. Not only does it set the standard for a more conscientious, greener future, it’s a superb looking car, to boot. Splendid.”

Nicolas Verneuil, marketing director, Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd. added; “We are absolutely thrilled by this recognition from both the Pocket-lint judges and the voting public, particularly as it places the Nissan LEAF amongst the world’s best known consumer tech brands. With the new LEAF e+, our customers go further than ever before with more confidence, excitement and connectivity – all with enjoyable zero-emission performance.”

Founded in 2003, Pocket-lint is a leading consumer technology media channel, run by a full-time team of professional journalists in the UK and US. Pocket-lint covers everything from phones to smart homes, cars, cameras and home entertainment. Pocket-lint’s aim is to not only help consumers make the right buying decisions, but also get more from their tech products once they’ve bought them.

The range-topping MY19 Nissan LEAF e+ sits at the pinnacle of the LEAF range, delivering a superlative ownership experience and featuring advanced Nissan Intelligent Mobility technology to deliver 217PS of performance and up to 239 miles (WLTP combined mode) of zero-emissions driving on a single charge. Prices for the Nissan LEAF e+ Tekna start from £35,895, including the £3,500 Government Grant.

The LEAF e+ has a 62kWh battery pack that offers 55% more capacity and approximately 25% improvement in energy density, while retaining a similar shape and size to the 40kWh LEAF battery pack. Other than a 5-millimetre increase in the car’s overall height (based on 16-inch wheels), the car’s dimensions are unchanged.

Maximum power output and torque have been also improved to an impressive 217PS and 340 Nm, respectively, delivering more powerful acceleration performance.

As the icon of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, LEAF exemplifies Nissan’s Intelligent Integration philosophy with an impressive array of connectivity services. All new LEAF versions come as standard with Nissan’s new NissanConnect infotainment system, with larger 8” touchscreen.

Features include Apple CarPlay® and AndroidAuto® allowing for seamless smartphone connectivity. Customers also benefit from an upgraded navigation system, which features TomTom LIVE premium traffic and route optimisation, as well as the inbuilt Online Map Update facility and Chargers Location functionality.
