Archer Plans Electric Air Taxi Networks in Three Major Texas Cities

Archer Aviation is planning to launch three electric air taxi networks across Texas, targeting Austin, Dallas–Fort Worth and Houston as the company works to bring faster, cleaner urban transportation to one of the fastest-growing regions in the United States.

The planned networks would connect major airports, business districts, sporting venues and coastal destinations using Archer’s all-electric Midnight aircraft. The company aims to turn some journeys that currently take 60 to 90 minutes by car into flights lasting just 10 to 20 minutes.

The announcement focuses on the Texas Triangle, a megaregion home to more than 20 million people that includes the state’s largest metropolitan areas. With heavy traffic affecting daily commutes and airport transfers, Archer sees electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft as a potential alternative to traditional ground transportation.

“Texas is setting the bar for America’s leadership in the next generation of aviation,” said Adam Goldstein, Archer Aviation’s founder and CEO.

The proposed networks are part of Archer’s broader effort to establish electric air taxi services in major US cities, with Texas emerging as an important market for the next generation of aviation.

Dallas–Fort Worth Network to Connect Airports and Business Hubs

In the Dallas–Fort Worth area, Archer plans to link several major airports with key commercial destinations, creating new connections across the sprawling North Texas metropolitan region.

Proposed locations include Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Dallas Love Field, Addison Airport, Arlington Municipal Airport, Fort Worth Meacham International Airport and Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport.

The network would also serve Frisco Station, a 242-acre mixed-use development surrounding The Star, the Dallas Cowboys’ world headquarters. The development includes office space, residential communities, hotels and health and wellness facilities, making it a potential destination for business and leisure travelers.

Hillwood chairman Ross Perot Jr. said the proposed network could create new connections between airports and major business destinations, building on North Texas’ established aviation infrastructure.

The project would depend on continued cooperation between Archer, airport operators, developers and other regional partners as the company works toward bringing its aircraft into commercial service.

Houston Network Could Connect Downtown With Galveston

Houston is another major target for Archer’s planned electric air taxi operations, with the company proposing routes that connect major airports, downtown and the Gulf Coast.

The proposed network would include George Bush Intercontinental Airport, William P. Hobby Airport and Sugar Land Regional Airport. Archer also identified the Thompson Hotel Helipad in downtown Houston and Galveston as planned locations.

One of the potential benefits would be reducing travel times between central Houston and Galveston. Journeys that can take more than an hour by road could potentially be completed in a much shorter flight, depending on the route and operating conditions.

Houston’s extensive road network and traffic congestion make it a potential market for alternative transportation options, particularly for airport transfers and trips between business centers and popular destinations.

US Senator Ted Cruz welcomed the announcement, describing next-generation aviation as an opportunity to strengthen American leadership while giving travelers more options for getting around.

However, the proposed network remains a development plan rather than an announcement of fully operational commercial routes.

Austin Also Targeted for Electric Air Taxi Flights

Archer’s third planned Texas network would serve Austin, connecting Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and Austin Executive Airport with selected destinations around the city.

Austin’s continued growth and its expanding business and technology sectors could create opportunities for a new type of premium urban transportation. Electric air taxis could eventually provide an alternative to lengthy road journeys between airports and important destinations.

The company has not yet detailed a complete list of planned Austin stops or published a commercial service timetable for the proposed Texas networks.

Archer Midnight Electric Aircraft Designed for Short Flights

At the center of the plans is Archer’s Midnight, an all-electric aircraft designed for short urban journeys.

The aircraft uses electric propulsion and vertical takeoff and landing capabilities, allowing it to operate without a conventional runway. Archer has designed Midnight for frequent, back-to-back flights, a feature intended to support an urban air taxi service.

The company also highlights the aircraft’s low-noise design and zero operating emissions as potential advantages over conventional transportation options.

Unlike a traditional electric car, an eVTOL aircraft can travel directly between suitable landing sites without being restricted to roads. That could prove particularly useful in congested metropolitan areas such as Houston and Dallas–Fort Worth.

Nevertheless, the proposed benefits will depend on several factors, including regulatory approvals, infrastructure availability, passenger capacity, operating costs and the ability to establish reliable flight schedules.

Archer Expands Flight Demonstrations Ahead of Texas Plans

The Texas announcement follows the completion of the Northern California leg of Archer’s “No Roads” flight tour, which included flights over San Francisco Bay.

During the tour, Archer visited seven cities over three days to demonstrate how electric air taxis could operate in urban environments and potentially integrate into existing airspace.

The company plans to conduct additional flights in Los Angeles as it prepares for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, known as LA28.

Federal Program and Charging Infrastructure Could Support Texas Operations

Archer’s proposed Texas networks are linked to the White House’s eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP), which is intended to support the integration of electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft into the US transportation system.

A June 2025 executive order enabled Archer to pursue flights in Texas under the program, according to the company. US Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy and Senator Ted Cruz have also toured the Midnight aircraft during a Dallas showcase.

Infrastructure will be another important part of the plan. Archer, BETA Technologies and Macquarie Capital launched America’s Consortium for Electric Skyways (ACES), an initiative aimed at electrifying up to 250 air taxi sites across the United States.

The consortium is working with the Texas Department of Transportation and state and local partners to expand compatible charging infrastructure at airports, fixed-base operator facilities and other strategic locations.

Such infrastructure would be essential to supporting electric aircraft operations across the Texas Triangle, although the proposed networks will still require the necessary approvals and operational preparations before passenger services can begin.
