Tesla sets quarterly global delivery record with over 95,000 electric cars

In the second quarter of 2019, Tesla has achieved record production of 87,048 vehicles and record deliveries of approximately 95,200 vehicles, beating its previous quarterly delivery record.

The first quarter of 2019 saw the company report a loss that was attributed to logistical “insanity” of expanding its best-selling Model 3 into European and Chinese markets by the entrepreneur.

Tesla delivered just 63,000 vehicles during the first three months of the year, when Tesla was plagued by challenges transporting cars from its factory in Fremont, California, across the world as well as questions about waning customer demand.

Deliveries for the company’s biggest seller, the Model 3, were 77,550 while combined deliveries for the Model S sedans and Model X SUVs were 17,650.

Model 372,53177,550
Total 87,04895,200

Tesla’s orders aren’t fully reflected in its delivery numbers until a buyer takes possession of their new car. The company said 7,400 vehicles were still in transit, but not yet delivered, during the second quarter. Those sales will show up in its third-quarter report.

“In addition, we made significant progress streamlining our global logistics and delivery operations at higher volumes, enabling cost efficiencies and improvements to our working capital position,” the company said in announcing its results.

Whether this will translate to a profitable quarter is yet to be seen – Tesla has not yet commented on financials.
