Belgium registered 702 plug-in passenger cars in December, more than double of what it had in the same period last year, ending the 2016 sales up a record 147% to 9.390 units, making it one of the fastest growing markets in Europe.
In 2016, all three podium seats went to luxury SUV’s, with the Volvo XC90 T8 winning the best seller trophy with 1.586 units, followed by the the BMW X5 40e (1.282 sales), with the Porsche Cayenne PHEV ending in third, with 807 units.
Looking at the LCV (N1) category, 2016 was also a positive year, with sales growing 92% to 144 units, with the Nissan e-NV200 (68 units) winning over the Renault Kangoo ZE (56), with these two being responsible for 86% of the total LCV market.
As for other alternative fuels, fuel cell cars grew from 5 registrations in 2015 to 14 last year, with most (13) of them belonging to the Toyota Mirai, while CNG passenger cars registrations tripled regarding 2015, ending 2016 with 1.940 units.
