Delaware is encouraging its residents and businesses to let go of the gas pump and embrace the EV charging station with an incentive program designed to promote a clean energy economy and reduce greenhouse emissions.
The Clean Transportation Incentive Program will provide rebates or grants to support electric or alternative-fuel vehicle purchases and installations or investments that expand clean-fuel refueling networks.
The program will make available up to:
– 2,200 toward the purchase or lease of a new qualified plug-in hybrid or an electric vehicle. To qualify for the $2,200 rebate the vehicle must be able to accept an electric charge from an outside source which powers an internal battery in the vehicle.
– $1,100 towards retrofitting an internal combustion engine into a dedicated electric vehicle
– $1,100 towards the purchase, lease or retrofit of a qualified dedicated propane fueled vehicle
– $1,100 towards the purchase, lease or retrofit of a qualified dedicated compressed natural gas fueled vehicle
– $500 to help buy and install new Level 1 (I) or Level 2 (II) Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment
The Electric Vehicle Charging Supply Equipment (EVSE) program is open to any resident, business or government agency in the state, and only $50,000 has been initially set aside for funding.Delaware currently has 35 publicly available electric charging units according to the Department of Energy Alternative Fuels Data Center as of July 20, 2015. Rebates are limited to one per individual or five per fleet.
