GM Offers Big Rebates on the Chevrolet Volt

Chevy-Volt
General Motors is offering potential buyers as much as $5,000 in incentives to move its Chevrolet Volt off of dealer lots.

The base price for the Chevrolet Volt is $39,995 but all buyers can get rebates of $4,000 for a 2013 model and $5,000 for a 2012 Volt.

Meanwhile, the federal government provides a $7,500 tax credit. A number of other states now offer incentives to buyers of qualifying battery vehicles, including Chevrolet Volt.

General Motors also is now reducing lease pricing for the Volt to $269 a month for 36 months, with a $2,399 down payment or can be purchased with zero percent financing for 48 months and receive $3,000 in cash off the price. The cash off, zero percent financing and lease deals run through July 1.

Chevrolet spokeswoman Michelle Malcho told Detroit News that GM has a 140-day supply of the Chevy Volt. That’s more than double the supply analysts say is healthy.

For the first five months of this year, GM has sold only 7,157 Chevy Volts. GM sold 1,607 Volts last month, which is 4.3% fewer than were sold in May of 2012.

Nissan, meanwhile, saw a big increase in sales of the all-electric Leaf. Nissan sold 2,138 Leafs last month compared to just 510 the year before. Nissan is offering very low lease prices on the Leaf. The Leaf is available for $199 a month with only $999 down.
