Infographic: Making a Nissan LEAF Battery

Nissan-Leaf-Battery
Nissan is making LEAF batteries at its newly opened lithium-ion battery plant in Smyrna, Tennessee.

The infographic bellow shows the whole process of making the battery pack.

First, there’s the process of creating the cell. It’s composed of an anode, a cathode, the separator between them. After the cell itself is fabricated and tested, multiple cells are then assembled into modules. Each module is placed in a case to protect the contents.

A module is the main building block of a battery pack. Nissan LEAF stores its power in 48 lithium-ion battery modules. Once the pack is assembled, sealed, and tested, it can be inserted into a LEAF.

The battery pack has an advanced design that fits snugly under the floorboard to optimize the space. It also gives the Nissan LEAF a low center of gravity for a seriously fun drive.
