MG Motors Reports Record September as UK Sales Reach New Quarterly High

MG Motor UK has recorded its strongest-ever monthly sales performance, delivering 18,026 vehicles in the UK during September 2026 and breaking the 18,000-registration mark for the first time.

The result puts MG in fourth place in the UK new-car market for September and represents an increase of 3,449 vehicles, or 23.7%, compared with September 2025.

MG’s growth was significantly stronger than the overall UK market, which increased by 12% to 350,536 new-car registrations during the month. MG captured a 5.14% market share as demand continued to rise across its hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicle lineup.

MG Records Its Biggest-Ever Quarter

September’s record result capped MG’s strongest quarter to date. The automaker registered 30,189 vehicles between July and September, making it the largest quarter in the company’s history in the UK.

It also extended MG’s run of consecutive record sales for the corresponding month to six, with the streak beginning in April 2026.

For the first nine months of 2026, MG has sold 78,930 vehicles in the UK, up 13,536 units, or 20.7%, from the same period last year. The brand currently holds a 4.54% year-to-date market share and ranks sixth overall in the UK.

Private buyers have been particularly important to MG’s growth. Retail registrations increased by 33%, substantially ahead of the 12.3% growth recorded across the wider UK retail market.

Fleet demand is also strengthening, with MG’s True Fleet sales rising 22% in September. New models such as the MGS9 PHEV, along with MG’s Hybrid+ technology, are helping the brand expand its presence among corporate customers.

Electrified MG Models Drive Sales Growth

Electrified vehicles are playing a major role in MG’s continued expansion in the UK.

An impressive 91.6% of MG’s September sales featured an electrified powertrain, highlighting the growing importance of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric models within the brand’s lineup.

MG’s battery-electric vehicle sales have increased 65.2% year to date, more than twice the 30.3% growth recorded across the overall UK EV market.

The company is also refreshing some of its best-known models. Updated versions of the MG3, MG ZS and MG HS have been introduced with improvements aimed at making the Hybrid+ powertrain quieter and smoother, while also adding comfort and convenience features.

MG says the updates are part of a broader strategy focused on value, customer experience and continued growth across both private and corporate markets.

MG Gains Recognition for Reliability

The sales record comes alongside stronger results for MG in independent reliability rankings.

MG achieved its first top-10 finish in the 2026 What Car? Reliability Survey, ranking ninth with a score of 92.0%. The brand was also named the survey’s most-improved manufacturer.

Several MG electric models performed particularly well. The MGS5 EV ranked first in the small family electric SUV category, while the MG5 EV finished third among electric cars.

The company has also continued investing in its aftersales operation. A new parts distribution facility now supports overnight deliveries, with MG reporting a 96% first-time parts fulfilment rate so far in 2026.

MG has additionally expanded the Cecil Kimber College MG Academy at Longbridge, doubling its footprint to provide more technical training and customer mobility support.

MG’s UK Growth Shows No Sign of Slowing

MG’s September performance highlights how quickly the brand has expanded its position in the UK market. Strong private demand, growing fleet sales and rapid growth in electric vehicle registrations are combining to push MG toward another record year.

With electrified models accounting for the vast majority of its monthly sales, MG is increasingly positioning itself as a major player in Britain’s transition toward hybrid and fully electric vehicles.

If the current sales momentum continues through the final quarter, 2026 could become MG Motor UK’s strongest year ever, further cementing the brand’s position in the increasingly competitive UK EV and electrified vehicle market.
