Downtown Project Buys 100 Tesla Model S Sedans

Tesla-Model-S-Las-vegas
Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh’s Downtown Project bought 100 Tesla Model S electric cars for his Project 100 transportation system in Las Vegas.

The Model S electric sedans were purchased on March 29 and it’s the biggest Tesla order to date.

The goal of Project 100 is to let downtown Vegas residents ditch their cars and use the Tesla Model S sedan to get around.

Users won’t be billed hourly or based on the distance they travel. Instead, the Project 100 plans to implement a flat subscription fee.

Membership for frequent users will be about $400 a month, in the same range as the cost of a car payment and insurance. For that monthly fee, subscribers will gain access to 100+ shared Tesla Model S cars, 100+ shared bikes, and 1oo+ shared shuttle bus stops.

Project 100 will be rolling out an invite-only mobile application over the next few months.

“We are excited to be partnering with Downtown Project and Project 100,” Elon Musk said in a release. “I am a big fan of their innovative efforts to help revitalize and transform downtown Vegas.”

“Our official roll out will bring together the ultimate in collaborative consumption: 100+ on-demand drivers, 100+ shared cars, 100+ shared bikes, and 100+ shared shuttle bus stops — all under one single monthly membership,” Project 100’s team writes.
