California Plans 1.5m Zero Emission Vehicles by 2025

California-ZEV-Plan
The Office of California Governor Edmund G. Brown has published its 2013 Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) Action Plan, which includes a roadmap towards putting 1.5 million ZEVs on California roads by 2025.

The Action Plan follows on Governor Brown’s Executive Order released March 2012, which set milestones for state government to enable 1.5 million zero emission vehicles on California roadways by 2025.

The Action Plan details concrete actions that state agencies are taking to help accelerate the market for zero emission vehicles, including both plug-in electric vehicles and fuel cell electric.

The Plan aims to meet long-term emission reduction targets by reducing transport related greenhouse gases by 80% below 1990 levels by 2050. In a staged approach, by 2015 major Californian metropolitan areas are required to be “ZEV ready”, including suitable infrastructure and streamlined permitting.

By 2020 this infrastructure will be able to support 1 million zero emission vehicles and five years later more than 1.5 million zero emission vehicles will be on Californian roads.

Within the Plan, ZEVs include hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles and plug-in electric vehicles, including both pure battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

Read the Action Plan available in PDF.
