2027 Fiat Topolino Gets Street-Legal Capability, New Open Air Model and Fresh Colors

The tiny electric Fiat Topolino is preparing for a bigger role in the U.S. market. After attracting strong customer interest and selling through initial dealer allocations, Fiat is expanding its 2027 Topolino lineup with a new Open Air version, fresh exterior colors, an updated digital instrument cluster, and an important upgrade: street-legal Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV) capability.

Known as Fiat’s “little mouse,” the Topolino combines distinctive Italian styling with compact dimensions and simple electric mobility. Although its limited performance and driving range make it unsuitable for conventional commuting, its affordable price and playful character could make it an appealing alternative to traditional cars and golf carts in beach towns, residential communities, and other low-speed environments.

2027 Fiat Topolino Becomes Street Legal in the U.S.

One of the biggest changes for the 2027 model year is the addition of LSV capability. When the Topolino initially arrived in the United States, it was limited to private-property use because it was not certified as a Low-Speed Vehicle.

That changes with the new model. The 2027 Fiat Topolino can reach a top speed of 25 mph, allowing it to qualify for street use on roads where local regulations permit LSVs. Generally, these vehicles are restricted to roads with speed limits of 35 mph or lower, although specific requirements vary by state and jurisdiction.

Fiat is also offering a complimentary LSV conversion kit to existing Topolino owners, allowing them to upgrade their vehicles to street-legal specification where permitted. Future shipments of 2027 models will arrive at dealerships with the necessary street-legal configuration already installed.

The change significantly expands the Topolino’s potential usefulness in the U.S. market, particularly in communities where low-speed electric vehicles are already popular.

New Fiat Topolino Open Air Joins the Lineup

The 2027 lineup introduces the Topolino Open Air, a new body style designed to bring more open-air driving enjoyment to the tiny electric vehicle.

The new version combines the traditional Topolino’s conventional doors with a retractable soft-top roof. It offers a middle ground between the standard hardtop model and the more open Dolce Vita edition.

The three available versions now include:

– Fiat Topolino: The standard two-door model with a conventional hardtop roof.
– Fiat Topolino Dolce Vita: Features a retractable soft-top roof and distinctive open sides with decorative stanchions instead of conventional doors.
– Fiat Topolino Open Air: Combines the retractable soft-top roof with the standard model’s conventional doors.

All three versions share the same basic electric powertrain and starting price, giving buyers more flexibility when choosing the design that best suits their lifestyle.

New Colors and Digital Instrument Cluster

Fiat is also introducing two new exterior colors for the 2027 Topolino: Corallo Orange and Luna Greige.

These join the existing Verde Vita Mint finish, giving buyers three color choices. Verde Vita Mint is the standard no-cost option, while Corallo Orange and Luna Greige carry an additional $295 charge.

Inside, every 2027 Topolino receives a new full-color digital instrument cluster, replacing the previous display with a more modern interface.

Customization remains relatively simple, with limited factory options. Buyers can also add a $395 rear luggage rack for additional carrying capacity.

2027 Fiat Topolino Price: Starting at $13,995

Affordability remains one of the Topolino’s strongest selling points.

The 2027 Fiat Topolino has a starting MSRP of $13,995, with a destination fee bringing the advertised starting price to $14,985. All three body styles share the same base MSRP.

With its relatively low purchase price, the Topolino targets customers who need something smaller and less expensive than a conventional electric car.

However, its low price comes with significant compromises. The Topolino is designed for short-distance transportation rather than long journeys or highway driving.

Fiat Topolino Range and Performance: Small but Purpose-Built

The Topolino’s specifications make its intended purpose clear. It is not designed to compete with mainstream electric vehicles such as the Fiat 500e, Chevrolet Bolt, or Nissan Leaf.

Instead, it focuses on short neighborhood trips and low-speed transportation.

Its key specifications include:

– Top speed: 25 mph
– Driving range: Approximately 46 miles
– Power output: Approximately 8 horsepower
– Vehicle classification: Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV)

The limited range and performance restrict where the Topolino can be driven, but they also reflect its intended role as a compact neighborhood electric vehicle.

For trips to the beach, local shops, residential communities, and other nearby destinations, its small footprint could be an advantage. Its ability to fit into tight parking spaces and navigate narrow streets makes it particularly appealing in areas where conventional vehicles can feel unnecessarily large.

As with other LSVs, buyers should check local regulations before using the Topolino on public roads.

Special Fiat Topolino Celebrates Italian Design Collaboration

To celebrate the Topolino’s U.S. launch and its growing popularity, Fiat also unveiled a one-of-a-kind special edition created in collaboration with Sanlorenzo, the renowned Italian yacht manufacturer.

The unique vehicle was presented during the opening of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show at an event held aboard a Sanlorenzo SX100 yacht.

The special Topolino features an interior inspired by Sanlorenzo’s approach to luxury yacht design. Natural materials and premium textiles are used throughout the cabin, including the seats, dashboard, and sunroof.

Additional details include custom seat belts, genuine natural leather accents, and nautical-grade wood flooring inspired by the teak decks found on Sanlorenzo yachts.

Although this collaboration is a one-off design showcase rather than a regular production model, it highlights the Topolino’s potential as a lifestyle-oriented mobility product.

Can the 2027 Fiat Topolino Become a Hit in America?

The 2027 Fiat Topolino is not intended to replace a conventional electric car. Its 25 mph top speed and approximately 46-mile range make that clear.

However, its appeal lies in doing something different.

For residents of beach communities, retirement developments, private neighborhoods, and other areas where golf carts are common, the Topolino offers an alternative with distinctive Italian styling and a fully electric powertrain.

The addition of street-legal LSV capability is arguably the most important development for the U.S. market. It removes a major limitation of the original version and gives customers more opportunities to use the vehicle beyond private property.

With three body styles, new colors, updated technology, and a starting MSRP of $13,995, the 2027 Fiat Topolino could find a growing audience among buyers looking for simple, affordable neighborhood transportation.

It may be tiny, slow, and limited in range, but the Topolino makes a convincing case that electric mobility does not always need to be complicated or expensive.
