Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is expanding its electric van lineup with the new ID. Buzz Cargo Long Wheelbase (LWB), bringing more cargo space, a larger battery and the option of 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
Pre-sales for the ID. Buzz Cargo LWB with 250 kW (340 PS) and 4MOTION begin September 23, 2026, with prices starting at €50,630 net in Germany. The rear-wheel-drive version will follow the following week, starting at €48,490 net.
In the UK, Volkswagen plans to open order books in early 2027, with deliveries expected to begin in spring.
The extended-wheelbase model adds roughly 0.5 cubic meters of cargo capacity compared with the standard ID. Buzz Cargo, while also introducing a wider second sliding door as standard equipment.
The biggest change is the longer load compartment. The ID. Buzz Cargo LWB has a 2,458-mm load area, making it 250 mm longer than the standard-wheelbase version.
Total cargo volume rises to 4.4 cubic meters, while the width between the wheel housings is 1,230 mm. Depending on the drivetrain, maximum payload is rated at up to 700 kg for the rear-wheel-drive model or 606 kg with 4MOTION.
Volkswagen also makes a second sliding door standard on the LWB model. The opening is 19 cm wider than before, allowing a Euro pallet to be loaded through the side door.
The Cargo LWB comes with a wooden load-floor and can be configured with either two or three seats. A manually adjustable lumbar support is also available.
The longer-wheelbase version adds approximately €2,340 net to the German list price compared with the standard model.
86-kWh battery and up to 340 PS
The ID. Buzz Cargo LWB gets a larger 86-kWh battery, compared with the 79-kWh battery used in the standard-wheelbase Cargo.
With rear-wheel drive, the electric van produces 210 kW (286 PS). The 4MOTION version increases output to 250 kW (340 PS) by adding all-wheel drive.
Towing capability remains strong for a vehicle in this segment. The ID. Buzz Cargo LWB can tow up to 1,800 kg with a braked trailer, including on 8% and 12% gradients.
Volkswagen offers the LWB Cargo with either a large tailgate or optional rear wing doors.
Travel Assist can now respond to traffic lights
The ID. Buzz Cargo LWB also benefits from Volkswagen’s latest ID. software generation, which introduces several new functions.
One of the most notable additions is an updated version of the optional Travel Assist system. It can now recognize traffic lights and, when appropriate, automatically slow the vehicle to a stop at a red light.
Another new feature is one-pedal driving, allowing the driver to accelerate and decelerate using the accelerator pedal while making greater use of regenerative braking.
These software upgrades are part of Volkswagen’s broader effort to make the ID. Buzz range more useful for both commercial and everyday driving.
Vehicle-to-Load turns the ID. Buzz Cargo into a mobile power source
The updated software also brings Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability to the ID. Buzz.
With the appropriate PowerSocket adapter, the vehicle’s high-voltage battery can supply electricity to external equipment. That could be particularly useful for tradespeople who need to operate tools away from a traditional power supply.
The system supports continuous operation or charging at up to 3.0 kW, with peak output reaching 3.6 kW.
Volkswagen will offer the PowerSocket with either a standard Schuko household-style plug or a CEE 230-volt connection commonly used for camping and other applications.
New infotainment system and digital services
The ID. Buzz Cargo LWB also receives Volkswagen’s new Innovision infotainment system, including a redesigned app store.
Drivers can download vehicle-specific apps and services covering areas such as audio, video streaming, parking, charging and gaming. Volkswagen says additional functions can also be activated or expanded digitally.
The multifunction steering wheel has been redesigned as well, with new buttons intended to simplify operation.
ID. Buzz Cargo LWB targets businesses that need more room
With its longer load floor, 4.4 m³ cargo capacity, larger 86-kWh battery and available 4MOTION system, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo LWB expands the range’s appeal to businesses that need more carrying capacity without moving to a larger electric van.
The combination of a second sliding door, increased payload flexibility, 1,800-kg towing capacity and V2L functionality also gives the long-wheelbase model several practical advantages for commercial users.
The ID. Buzz Cargo LWB will go on sale in Germany in September 2026, while UK customers will have to wait until early 2027 to place orders, with the market launch planned for spring.
