
Mercedes-Benz Trucks has delivered the first 27 battery-electric eActros 600 trucks to Amazon, marking another major step in the electrification of heavy-duty road freight in Europe.
The trucks will join Amazon’s transportation network in Germany, with more than 50 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric trucks expected to be operating on German roads by the end of 2026. The two companies say the deployment highlights the growing role of long-range battery-electric trucks in creating a lower-emission freight transportation network.
The delivery follows a major agreement between Amazon and Mercedes-Benz Trucks signed in early 2025 for more than 200 eActros 600 electric trucks. It represents Amazon’s largest order of electric trucks to date, with most of the vehicles being deployed in the United Kingdom.
Amazon Expands Its Electric Truck Fleet
Mercedes-Benz Trucks began delivering eActros 600 trucks to Amazon in the UK in late 2025. In Germany, the first 27 vehicles are now entering service as part of Amazon’s wider effort to reduce emissions from its transportation operations.
The electric trucks are primarily being used on middle-mile routes, transporting goods between fulfillment centers and urban areas. These routes are well suited to battery-electric trucks because they typically involve predictable distances and regular return points where vehicles can be recharged.
The eActros 600 combines a large battery pack with a highly efficient electric drive axle developed by Mercedes-Benz Trucks. The combination is designed to make the truck suitable for demanding long-haul and regional freight applications.
Amazon is also investing heavily in the charging infrastructure required to support its growing electric truck fleet. The company plans to install hundreds of heavy-duty vehicle chargers at its European locations. According to Amazon, the chargers can replenish an eActros 600 from 10% to 80% in around 70 minutes under suitable conditions.
Overall, Amazon says it is investing more than €1 billion in the electrification and decarbonization of its European transportation network, including more than €400 million for operations in Germany.
Mercedes eActros 600 Offers Up to 1,000 km of Daily Capability
The Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 is designed specifically for long-distance heavy-duty transportation. It uses three battery packs with a combined installed capacity of 621 kWh, based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell technology.
Under practical operating conditions with a gross combination mass of 40 tons, Mercedes-Benz says the eActros 600 can travel around 500 kilometers (311 miles) without intermediate charging.
In an economical configuration, the truck can achieve up to 560 kilometers (348 miles) on a single charge. With strategically timed charging stops during legally required driver breaks, Mercedes-Benz says the eActros 600 can cover well over 1,000 kilometers in a single day.
The use of LFP battery technology is also intended to provide long service life. Mercedes-Benz Trucks has designed the eActros 600 to meet durability requirements comparable to those of a conventional heavy-duty Actros, including a target of up to 1.2 million kilometers over 10 years.
After that period, Mercedes-Benz expects the battery to retain more than 80% of its original state of health. More than 95% of the installed battery capacity can also be used with the LFP technology, helping maximize the usable energy available for transportation.
The eActros 600 is technically rated for a gross combination mass of up to 44 tons. With a standard semitrailer in the EU, payload is approximately 22 tons, although actual limits can vary depending on national regulations.
eActros 600 Tested Across Europe
The electric truck had already undergone extensive real-world testing before entering series production.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks conducted the eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024, covering approximately 15,000 kilometers through 22 countries entirely on electric power. The truck also completed the European Testing Tour Winter 2025, traveling around 6,500 kilometers through Northern Europe.
Both tests were conducted with a gross combination mass of 40 tons, providing an opportunity to evaluate the truck under demanding real-world conditions.
The eActros 600 was subsequently named International Truck of the Year 2025, one of the commercial vehicle industry’s most important awards. The award is presented by the International Truck of the Year organization, which consists of commercial vehicle journalists from across Europe.
Series production of the eActros 600 began at Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ Wörth plant in Germany at the end of 2024.
Mercedes Expands Its Electric Truck Lineup
Mercedes-Benz Trucks is expanding the eActros family beyond the original eActros 600 configuration. Customers can now choose from different cab versions, battery configurations, wheelbases and axle arrangements depending on their range, payload and comfort requirements.
The second-generation eActros lineup offers more than 40 base-vehicle variants, while retaining key technologies such as LFP batteries and the company’s dedicated electric drive axle.
Another addition is the eActros Lowliner, which is designed for high-volume transportation applications. The Lowliner will be offered with either two or three battery packs, providing operators with additional flexibility when selecting an electric truck for specific routes.
The first new variants are scheduled to become available to order in EU30 markets and additional markets from the third quarter of 2026. Series production of the eActros Lowliner is planned to begin at the Wörth plant during the second quarter of 2027.
Electric Trucks Move Into Everyday Freight Operations
Amazon’s deployment of the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 shows how battery-electric trucks are moving beyond pilot projects and into regular commercial transportation.
For logistics companies, the combination of longer driving ranges, faster charging and expanding charging infrastructure is becoming increasingly important as electric trucks take on more demanding routes.
With Amazon planning to operate more than 50 eActros 600 trucks in Germany by the end of 2026, and its larger European order exceeding 200 vehicles, the partnership represents a significant deployment of battery-electric heavy-duty trucks on European roads.
As charging networks continue to expand, electric trucks such as the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 could play an increasingly important role in reducing emissions from long-distance freight transportation.
