Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has introduced a significantly improved version of the ID. Buzz Cargo, bringing a longer driving range, increased power, new vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability and updated software—all while lowering the entry price.
The updated electric van replaces the previous 59kWh battery model with a more efficient 58kWh battery pack, delivering better real-world usability for businesses and fleet operators.
Longer Range and Higher Performance
Despite the slightly smaller battery capacity, Volkswagen has improved efficiency through upgraded battery cell technology. As a result, the new ID. Buzz Cargo now offers:
– Up to 218 miles (WLTP) of electric range, an increase of 17 miles.
– 190PS of power, up from the previous 170PS.
– Improved efficiency without compromising practicality.
The additional range gives drivers greater flexibility during daily deliveries and service routes, while the power increase provides stronger acceleration and improved overall performance.
Lower Starting Price
The new ID. Buzz Cargo 58kWh starts at £29,995 (excluding VAT), making it £5,655 less expensive than the outgoing version.
In the UK, every 58kWh model also qualifies for the government’s Plug-in Van Grant (PiVG), reducing the purchase price by an additional £5,000 for eligible buyers.
The combination of a lower list price and government incentives makes the updated model a more attractive option for businesses looking to transition to electric commercial vehicles.
Vehicle-to-Load Adds New Practicality
One of the biggest additions across the entire ID. Buzz Cargo lineup is vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality.
The integrated system delivers:
– Continuous output of 2.0kW
– Peak output of 3.6kW
– 16A at 240V through a standard three-pin socket located in the rear cargo area
This allows the van to power a wide range of external equipment, including power tools, laptops, lighting and even small appliances such as kettles. For tradespeople, mobile technicians and event operators, the van effectively becomes a portable power source without requiring a separate generator.
Updated Software Brings Smarter Features
Volkswagen has also equipped the ID. Buzz Cargo with its latest ID. Software 6.0, adding several new digital features.
The updated infotainment system now includes an integrated app store, enabling drivers to install services for streaming, charging and parking directly from the vehicle.
Another key addition is Connected Travel Assist, which uses expanded online data to improve driver assistance. The system can recognize traffic lights and automatically slow the vehicle to a stop when a red signal is detected, helping make urban driving smoother and more convenient.
Competitive Finance Options
To make the updated electric van more accessible, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is offering Contract Hire finance packages starting from £239 per month, giving businesses another affordable route into electric mobility.
