Cancer Research UK Expands Electric Fleet With Renault Master E-Tech Vans

Cancer Research UK has added the Renault Master E-Tech electric van to its retail logistics fleet, supporting the charity’s efforts to transport donated goods more efficiently while lowering emissions from its day-to-day operations.

The new electric vans will operate from the charity’s Regional Distribution Centre in Fleet, helping move stock to stores across its retail network. Driven by full-time fleet drivers, each vehicle is expected to travel up to 800 miles per week, demonstrating the growing viability of electric commercial vehicles in demanding logistics applications.

To support daily operations, the vans have been equipped with practical features including bespoke racking systems, LED lighting, and 360-degree parking sensors. Finished in Cancer Research UK’s distinctive branding, the vehicles will also serve as highly visible ambassadors for the charity on roads across the UK.

Chosen After Extensive Fleet Evaluation

Cancer Research UK selected the Renault Master E-Tech electric following a detailed assessment of key fleet requirements, including total cost of ownership, driving range, payload capacity, and driver feedback.

The charity already operates an all-Renault light commercial vehicle fleet, which includes a combination of panel vans, low-floor Luton vehicles, and the Renault Kangoo E-Tech electric. The addition of the Master E-Tech further strengthens its transition toward lower-emission transport solutions.

Colin Jones, Senior Contracts Manager, Fleet & Travel at Cancer Research UK, emphasized the importance of reliable logistics operations for the organization’s fundraising activities.

“Every item we move through our retail network has the potential to help fund life-saving research, so having the right vehicles in place really matters. The Renault Master E-Tech electric gives our teams the space, range and usability they need to keep stock flowing from our Regional Distribution Centre into local shops, while helping us reduce local emissions from our operations,” he said.

Electric Van Designed for Real-World Fleet Operations

According to Renault UK, the Master E-Tech electric is designed to meet the practical demands of commercial fleets that require dependable performance, substantial cargo capacity, and efficient daily operation.

The large electric van is powered by a 105 kW electric motor producing 300 Nm of torque and is paired with an 87 kWh battery pack. This combination delivers a WLTP driving range of up to 285 miles, making it suitable for a wide range of urban and regional delivery routes.

For businesses and fleet operators requiring fast turnaround times, the Master E-Tech electric supports DC fast charging, allowing up to 142 miles of driving range to be added in approximately 30 minutes. This enables flexible charging strategies, whether overnight at a depot or through rapid charging sessions during the working day.

Seb Brechon, Head of LCV at Renault UK, noted that the adoption highlights the growing role of electric vans in commercial operations.

“Cancer Research UK’s adoption of the Master E-Tech electric shows how electric vans can deliver in busy, real-world fleet operations where practicality, range and driver confidence all matter,” he said.

Renault Master E-Tech Continues Fleet Growth

The Renault Master remains one of the most recognized models in the large van segment, offering load capacities ranging from 11 to 20 cubic metres and a design focused on maximizing operator productivity.

With organizations increasingly looking to reduce emissions while maintaining operational efficiency, Cancer Research UK’s latest fleet investment demonstrates how electric commercial vehicles are becoming an integral part of modern logistics networks. The deployment of the Renault Master E-Tech electric will help the charity continue supporting its fundraising activities while advancing its sustainability goals.
